7saum not chambering.

Remington action?

I just took a 7stw to my local Smith for it not chambering. Even a new empty case AND a fire formed empty case wouldn't chamber unless I really slammed it home. It was also slightly denting the tip of the neck.
My first thought was just right headspace and the brass wasn't full lengthen far enough... not it.

Took it to my smith and my isssue was actually an extractor the was broken in half and binding and pushing my brass too far. As soon as the smith took the extractor out all my brass and also live rounds chambered perfectly.

So this bolt is currently being machined and fitted with a mini m-16 extractor to eliminate this as a future issue.

Thought I'd mention it cause it had similar symptoms that you also have.

I have a Howa 1500 action. It's going to the smith this upcoming week. So hopefully have some answers.

It's been a while since I've updated but it's finally on the way back from the gunsmith, had a few family emergencies that pushed back sending it in.

The barrel was chambered and stamped as a 7mm saum but the gunsmith did measurements and used gauges, and a chamber cast and it turned out to be a 7mm WSM. So good thing I didn't try to force a round in and take it to the range. So I have the 7mm wsm barrel coming back as well as a brand new bartlein 7sherman max barrel.

Hey all. I can post pictures if needed.

I bought a 7saum off a member here, and it's new unfired but the bolt will not close.

i did noticed when I closed a sized only brass that the necks would get pinched down a little bit about 1/4th of the neck down. So I got a neck turner and turned 1/1000th until it closed in the chamber without any resistance, then I trimmed to book length. Seated a bullet to book length and it still won't close. I've tried multiple passes at different neck turning, and bullet seating depth (its built on a long action)

I don't want to keep shaving my 7saum brass as it was expensive and hard to source.

is the issue a head spacing? Or could it not have been cut deep enough, as it was supposed to be a saami reamer. Or should I just send it to a gunsmith to get the issue figured.

Kiss one piece of brass goodbye just like you've already done with turning the necks and bump the shoulders back extremely far and just see if it will chamber, or to get a better idea of what's going on take a black sharpie and cover the entire case then chamber it once or twice and look for where it rubbed off

Way out there, but I had a savage 110 rebarreled. And if the torque on the bolt that held the receiver to the stock was too tight it made the ammo feed tightly. Quarter turn off fixed it and I roll with it.

You need to bed the action tightening the screw is actually bending the action a slight bit

Yea I was doing that with the 7saum brass I got for it. Wasted about 6 cases trying every which way, so I'm glad that the gunsmith fixed the barrel and stamp for me. A little shorter than I woulda like but it'll be a shooter.

Yea that's what I thought too. Seems like it was a hack job but the smith fixed it up.
