7SAUM - is 8.7 twist fast enough to sling the Berger 175 Elite Hunter?

Gonna build a 7SAUM on XM action, lightweight with Bartlein 2b or Brux 3 contour barrel.
Figure on going 21" or 22" to use my Ultra 7.
XM BDL bottom floorplate.
Purpose - elk in Wyoming.
Is 8.7 twist fast enough for the 175?

Plenty fast enough! With a little elevation, you could run the 195

Berger web site lists minimum twist as 1:10". Stability factor is 1.77 at 2900 fps at sea level. Looks like a good match.

Mine shoots flies with them and its a 1:9

I shoot 180 eldms in a 8.7 twist. She does fine

Shot good in my 9 twist, but would not shoot elk with them. very explosive at close ranges.

Yep...we shoot them in 1-9 all the time..i have a 1-8 on mine and it screws them in near one hole...

Always use the Miller stability formula to figure out if the bullet and twist will work together. AB P.C. software is the easiest to use. Of course doing the calculus yourself is fun too.

I haven't done calculus since my college days!!

I ended up going with a Bartlein #4CFW 22" 8.5 twist. Will be for next year....
