Well..... I pulled the Zeiss 6.5-20x50 off the STW today, and installed my EGW HD base & TPS TSR 30mm rings. There's only 2 problems....1) I don't have any spare 30mm LR scopes laying around, and 2) I don't have any TPS TSR aluminum 1" rings.

Nothing wrong with the Zeiss, just want to use it for a different project that is more hunting oriented vs LR target shooting oriented.

So, looks like the old girl is gonna be scopeless for a little bit till I can order my new scope. Thinking about going with a Vortex Viper HS LR 6-24x50 30mm with an MOA reticle... For $899, seems like an awsome scope. Also, I like the reticle which is perfect for holdover, and I can get a custom turret for really cheap.

Plus, I needed the stainless Leupold rings & bases for my .338 WinMag. The DNZ mount that came on it keeps snapping the heads off of screws, and it did so Thursday night and it snapped off halfway down the threads so I couldn't back it out to put a new screw in it. So, I said "Screw it!" (Pun intended), and put the mounts off the STW on it since I was planning on pulling them off soon anyway, to go with a picatinny rail setup on the STW. I had them laying around in the packages figured why not... This just gave me a good excuse.

Here's the 700 .338 WM with my old Nitrex TR-One 3-10x50 on it. For a $300 scope a few years back, they were clear as hell! The clicks are repeatable, and it handles the big recoil nicely. I have had it on my STW, my old ultralight Ruger 77 7Mag (stainless/skeleton), and now it's on the .338 WM.

I am buying a factory Rem stainless fluted sporter .25-06 barrel Friday, and am probably gonna ream it to .257 Wby and put it on the .338, and make it a lightweight .257 Wby deer rifle, which, I've always wanted. I'll post pics of the barrel when I get it.

Here are some pics of my 7STW, which started life as a Savage Model 110 in 7mm Rem Mag. This is my first "build" on a Savage action. I have used the Remington 700 platform, exclusivley, for my previous builds. I began this project, with the intentions of putting together a comparatively light, "budget build", semi-custom, deer rifle. Since the factory Savage barrel was still new, I decided to rent a reamer from 4D Reamer Rentals and rechamber it to the 7mmSTW and try my luck with the factory barrel. Since I have shot Savages right out the box, that shot sub-MOA groups with factory ammo, I was optimistic that when finsihed, this gun would shoot well with the factory barrel. The factory trigger (pre accu-trigger) was the worst factory trigger I have owned. It pulled FOURTEEN pounds. It was promptly replaced with a Timney trigger, that is now set at 2.5#. While the barrel was still detatched from the reciver, I put a SS HD recoil lug from Brownells, in place of the original. I ordered a 20MOA picatinny rail from EGW and a set of rings with 1" inserts, from SWFA. These rings mirror the Burris XTR rings. The socpe is a Nikon Monarch 3-12 with BDC reticle. I picked up a stock from Boyds. The inletting was fine, as delivered. But, there are things the stock needs to have done to it, to perform to its ability. Especially with a heavy-recoiling caliber like the STW. I pillar bedded the stock and glass bedded (Pro-Bed 2000) the action. I got rid of the cheap plastic factory (Savage) trigger gaurd and got a steel one from Brownells. The plastic washer/spacer under the forward action screw was replaced with a brass escutheon. Someday, I intend on having 7mmSTW engraved on it, so it resembles a case head. The escutheon was made by my friend, Manford Hammond. The 1/2" "recoil pad" that Boyd's includes on their rifle stocks, leave alot to be desired. They do offer an add-on for an addtional $40. I chose a pad, that they do not offer as an option, the Kick-Eeze sorbothane recoil pad. I found out how effective they are at reducing recoil, after installing one on my Rem 870 rifled slug gun. I put a BT-15 Accu-Shot Atlas Picatinny Rail Adpater on the forend, utilizing the hole from the exsisting front sling stud. I did have to use a longer sling stud once the rail was installed. I also used the Accu-shot Rail Mounting Fastener Set to attatch the rail to the stock. I had to dremmel out some material in the forend for the front mounting fastener to fit. These two items and my Atlas V-8 Bipod were all purchased from Triad Tactical. I installed 2 Grovtec Flush Cups in the stock with JB Weld. Note here, it really is best to use a tap before installing the cups. Grovtec recommends using a 9/16"-18UNF-2B tap for this procedure. The sling is a Mountain Shooter sling made by Brock Markwell. I am loading 162gr A-Max's in front of RL22.

Well here she is fellas. The trade was finalized yesterday. It needs new paint, and I want a 28-30 inch barrel. Also, the most obvious thing...it needs glass! I am excited to finally have this cartridge and ready to get her shooting. Friendly advice always welcomed. gun)

So. And Ben here made a 31 inch I think. Let's see how these do. I will report when mine is done with break in and load development.

I know it's not an STW, but I figured I'd post some pics of my newest build....It will be a Sendero .25-06 Ackley Improved. I just got all my parts in, now it's time to find the money to take it to the smith to have everything trued, headspaced, and fitted up properly. The gun is just in mock-up form right now, sitting in the safe, just to get an idea of what it will turn out like when I'm done.

I literally pieced this gun together from the action up. Bought the action and recoil lug from a local guy who had it still new and laying around, then bought the stock from a semi-local store that still had it sitting there from last year. Bought the barrel from another member on here. The DNZ scope mount came on my .338 WM when I bought it (same guy I bought this action from), and decided to reuse it. My new bottom metal and BDL assembly just came in Monday from Brownells. And the old Nitrex TR-One 3-10x50 I've had since about 2008-2009. For a $300 scope, that thing is CLEAR!

Other than what my smithing bill will come down to, I count the Nitrex scope and DNZ base as free, since I sourced them from under my bench where I keep spare stuff...I have right at $600 total investment in this build, just by waiting for the right deal to come along, and then buying when I see what I want/need for it.
