7mm08

To start with I have a 28 nosler after last year I decided to get something a little lighter for long hikes . I ended up getting a Howa 1500 7mm08 I have some barns ttsx 150 grain bullets left over from my 28. What would be a good powder to start with
I'd leave the 150 grain for the 28 Nosler. The 7mm08 does better with lighter monos like the 120 grain. Load it with Varget in the 3000 fps range and you will love it. I used to run 140 TTSx in my 7mm 08 and have switched to the 120's (hammer hunters in my rifle and 120 TTSX for my wife's rifle).

This is great advice

Monos especially Barnes work best with light for cartridge projectiles going at max velocity

Otherwise expansion & terminal performance can be disappointing

I switched to 110 TTSXs for our general purpose suppressed 7-08, at 3400 fps they are impressive on our Game here

I would love to get some Hammer's to use once my stash of Barnes is depleted

I also agree that the 150 mono is a bit heavy for the 7-08. It may shoot well but you'll be giving up lots of velocity compared to 110's or 120's. My powder's of choice are W760 and IMR 4350 for my 7-08
W760 (H414) worked great in my rifles as well. It was too temp sensitive for me. If you hunt where do don't need to worry about it the W760/H414 gave me better velocity over Varget.

I have been shooting 150 TTSX and 150 TSX out of our 7mm-08s for ten years and have had perfect record of pass through kills. The charge that works best for all three (Remington, Brwng A and Brwng X) is H380. Best charge has been 42.0gr and yields about 2550fps with no pressure signs. Hodgden calls Max at 45gr. I get 1/2 MOA with the Brwnings, The old Remington shoots 1 MOA. I tried 4 other powders and am currently experimenting with IMR4895.

760 and big game are the easier to find and maybe imr4350 also. Try midsouth shooters and brownell's. Midway usa is a tough find.
