A good non scientific way to test bullets is to line up milk jugs filled with water at whatever distance you choose. If you want to see how a certain bullet will hold up at close range, try 25 or 50 yards, if you want to see how they will do at longer distance then do 300 or 400 yards, although it becomes a little harder to make a dead center hit and recover a bullet, so an accurate rifle/load is a must at 300-400 to catch them. This is how I've tested a lot of bullets over the last 20 years. It gives a pretty solid base line anyway. Hope this helps.
