7mm stw

Ask your question in the 7STW forum on this site. You'll gather more attention. I have one. Where brass isn't available you can turn to forming 8mm Rem mag and with some extra work, any of the full length belted mags (2.85" long) can be fire formed. As far as ammo on the shelf, I think that train has left the station except when Nosler deigns, rarely, to make brass or ammo in that cartridge. Might be able to get Quality Cartridge Co. to make a custom batch...

Just about any brass which can be used to make the 7 STW is sold out or discontinued. Peterson makes a long basic belted brass but it's hard to find also.

Otherwise just stay on the hunt.

:)

Back when the 7STW first came out, there was no brass available either. I had to buy factory loaded 8mm Mag ammunition, pull the bullets, resize to 7mm and load. I tried forming them from 375 H&H brass, but I could not get it to work without cracking the case.

I haven't tried 375 to 7mm but I bet it needs to be done in small steps (i.e., a lot of work), maybe too much work! I have used 8mm Remag as you did.

I got the 375 cases necked to 7mm just fine, but when I fire formed them, they cracked at the shoulder. It's a lot of taper to blow out at the shoulder. Maybe if I had annealed them, it might have worked. I don't know. That was 40 years ago.

I still form mine from either 375 H&H or from 300/340 Weatherby.
I prefer to use Remington brand 300 Weatherby as it forms easier.
I have never cracked or lost a case doing so.
I form many full length cases from H&H brass. If unprimed brass was available to me, I would use 6.5-300 Weatherby brass to form STW, but it isn't.

Cheers.

Thank you for the idea... I just found a box of 6.5x300roy at the range the other day. Someone had their toy out and didn't keep the brass...

As to the O.P. not finding 7stw brass, I've necked/ blown out brass from 375 H@H brass just fine... Just neck to 33, then 30, then final form and blow out with a load just below start or a few grains of pistol powder with a bit of baby cereal over it...

As to sources of brass, I was on Mid-south shooters supply and found 1/2 dozen candidates for the conversion in a couple minutes. The easy/peasy way is 8 rem. I've always either bought 7stw brass or blown out 375...

Or neck this down, or perhaps just run the sizer die through.
