7mm STW Brotherhood - For those who shoot the 7mm Shooting Times Westerner

Sad news.

About 10 minutes from me, earlier today, this guy comes home kills his sister and sets the place on fire. Goes out and hides in the bushes and waits for the firemen to come, when they get there, opens fire, kills 2 wounds 2 and an off duty policeoffer trailing the firetruck gets shot too. ***... I live in a pretty nice suburb. The guy kills himself just before the police arrive. 7 nice homes burned to the ground in the proximity, luckily no one else insured. News so far, the guy beat his grandmother to death 30 years ago with a hammer, did 18 years as a felon, 10 years on parole and with no supervision about 2 years later gets a gun somewhere (FELONS CAN'T BUY OR HAVE THEM HERE IN NY.) The guy was probably pretty mentally ill. I feel terrible for the families, especially the first responders families. Were getting lots of people calling in from across the country which is a godsend but does it have to take this? We need to watch our families and neighborhoods guys.

Ed, i don't even know how to respond to that except to say I am saddened by the news, especially because of today's date, ( Christmas eve), but glad that YOU are ok. On the same breath, how and why can things like this happen at any time? As I was saying earlier, about it ending on a bad note, well, it just got worse. And I don't think anybody liked Mr. Lappiere's answer to the problem the other day, or at least, it didn't come out the way he intended it.
Well, I think we have a few more folks to pray for! OMG, and I mean that !! Take care to all.

Wild Rose, this latest production run of those SPS's are junk dude. I think they used a chainsaw file to lap the barrels!!!! If you run a patch through one, it will come out shredded.
I have been a Remington man the majority of my life, but I'll not buy another NEW one. I'll buy used and older ones, that I can figure out when they were made though!!

I'm really sorry to hear that. I got pretty excited when I saw them offering so many of the newer 7mm STW's I was sincerely hoping it would be a big revival for the caliber and we'd start seeing more and more STW related "new tech" coming out.

I spent the day breaking in two new model 70's. One a super rare find I recently purchases from another member here which is an original Model 70 Sharp Shooter in 7mm STW. The damned thing is an absolute dream.

Put a new Vortex Viper PST 4-16x50 on it. Shot one shot at 25yds to get on paper, 2 more at 100yds, and we proceeded to burn the rest of a 20 round box up shooting little white rocks out to 750yds!

Best part was my little brother's boy was with us and he was busting rocks with it at 450yds with his first few shots. He'd never fired a magnum anything before and he's a big skinny 13yo "city kid".

In an hour he got to shoot the new M 70 300wm (no brake), the STW, and my 300 Rum. He hit everything he shot at to after I did some coaching and got him calmed down and alleviated his fear of the recoil. With kids I find it best not to show them how big the cartridges are before they finish shooting. Really helps to keep them calm.

I'll try and get some targets and pictures on the STW soon and put them on here. I'm a little more focused on getting it bloody first though.

Just wanted to send out a message to all the "Brothers" and wish everyone a MERRY CHRISTMAS, and a wonderful NEW YEAR. There are some lasting friendships here, that will survive this thread for sure. For most here, it has been a good year, but for us all, it has ended in a bad way. BLESS all of those folks, and the children!!

Yep, no matter how bad a day, week, year you are having you don't have to look too far to find someone who's troubles make all of ours look very small.

Christmas will never be the same for those families again.

Hopefully God will grant them grace and peace. Those families deserve a little line in all our prayers.

I did years ago. It's too fast for the NBT's and I had serious problems with breakup on impact. Damned sure killed them but man what a mess! For dear it was great, for big hogs it was a non starter.

I'd strongly sugget moving up to the 150gr SiroccoII or the Hornady Interbond, or of course the venerable Nosler Accubond. With the new Accubond LRH bullets coming out this spring We're about to have an opportunity to take the 7mm STW into a whole new realm too.

I cannot wait!

It's Christmas guys and every day is a new day to be cherished. I have a 2 month old, 2 year and 6 year old grandson's, can't wait to see them around 8 or so. I'll bet they are starting to awake as I write.

Well Midsouth Shooters already has them set-up and listed (100 count boxes) in 150 grain and 175 grain bullets (current staus is "out of stock") on their website. So hopefully they will be selling them soon!
