7mm Rem Mag Twist Rate

I checked with Berger's barrel twist calculator using Badland's 160 Super BD2 data and the bullet would be marginally stable at my altitude (2200 ft elevation). Some barrels do shoot accurately even without the proper barrel twist. There is some BC loss but as long as it shoots.

Go 1:8, I did the same thing that you're doing and super happy. 24 inch 7 RM shooting 180 Bergers at 2850, not maxed but shoots lights out. This is at 300 yards, pretty happy for 9# hunting rig.

I have a 1:9 26" barrel on my 280 AI. It shoots the Berger 180-grain VLD-H bullet at 3,000 fps with the right handload recipe. The Berger stability calculator (https://bergerbullets.com/twist-rate-calculator/) says the bullet is very well stabilized with my twist rate at that speed. Suggest using that calculator to get objective answers to questions about adequate twist rates.
