7mm Rem Mag and 160 Accubond for long range???

wow nice groups I wonder what those would look like at 200 yards maybe your barrel has yet to speed up from breaking in also I was able to get a little over 3000 with 162s and 2890 with 180 eldms with H1000 in my 24 9 twist inch barrel

I really want to thank you guys for your thoughts, I would be lost with out the help I get from this forum.
Shot some new loads today and had some great results. The only bullets I could find at Cabela's were the 168 GR Nosler AB Long Range. First run was 61 gr H4350, recorded 2870 with ES of 26 but group size was 1 moa. Second run was 62 gr RL22, recorded average of 2817, ES of 34 (not great), SD of 14, group size was 1/2 moa or less. If I would have shot all five at the same point I would have had one hole (see pic below)!!! So I was hope that some of you guys with much more experience could give suggestions of my next more (more powder or change seating depth). BTW, running .015" off lands. I would like to get closer to 2950 but hopefully my group size will not open up. The ES is to high and I am not sure what will fix that.

Thanks, Jeff from Oregon

Try looking for your flat spot in the velocity by adjusting powder then adjust your coal to tighten up the groups.
Btw what chrony are u using. The light sensor ones will lie to you

View attachment 92108 I have been trying to get my new custom build (Bartlein 8.75" twist) rifle to shoot with the ELD-X 175, finally gave up. Went to the local Outdoor store and bought a box of 160 Accubond just to see how they shoot. I love the performance so far with 62 grains of H4350 getting 2925 and consistent 1/2 moa. So now I need to make a decision. Buy more 160 AB and dial things in or try something a little heavier like a Berger 168 Classic hunter. So I guess my question is, is the 160 AB a poor choice for long range? I have used the 150AB in my 270wsm for many years with good success but only out to 400 yards. BTW, this gun was built for hunting Elk and Deer out to 800 yards, rocks out to 1200 yards.

Thanks, Jeff from Oregon

You have the 160 AB under powered if you are only getting 2925 fps. I am getting about 200 fps faster in my 7 mag with IMR 7828 pushing 160 AB in a 26" barrel, 1:9.5 twist. I get sub .5 moa out to 700 yards on most days (less windy). Also, they are fairly easy to get to shoot well vs the VLD type bullets which can be much less forgiving with seating depth and powder used.
Accubonds are outstanding for hunting. They perform well on game.
800 yards may 'pushing it' for elk with a 7 mag.

I would like to get up to 2950-3000 and see what grouping looks like. Hopefully my ES gets better. I will try your suggestion. Thanks

3000 with a 160 in 7RM should be easy. I am getting 2996 with a 180 Hybrid with a fairly mild load in my rifle. Try H1000, H4831, RL23, or RL26 to pick up more speed and still maintain (or improve) great accuracy. I also get 3070 from the 168 HVLD & 168 Barnes LRX easily.

Heck, I get 2975 from the 175 Berger Elite Hunter in my .280AI over RL23. That is a hot load though. Going to work up a round with either 160 NAB or 160 TMK in this rifle for deer/antelope.

At 3000 fps, do i need to start worrying about barrel life. I have lots of room for powder and I have not seen any pressure issues at 2900, 3000 with 168 grain should be easy I would think.

If you are worried about barrel life, you should pick up a .308 or .260 to do your volume shooting with. I shoot my 6.5 SLR to 1500+ quite often.

The 7RM should still last 1500-2000+ rounds though.

Or keep your mild load for practice, but work up a hotert load for hunting with.

Have you tried the 168gr Accubond Lr's?
Yes, I have a post from yesterday. Thanks for the suggestion. I am going to run them tomorrow with 64.0 grains of RL22, should get me over 2900 fps.
