7mm mag

That's not the experience I'm having with them yes pin holes going in then they come apart and turn the internals to jello sometimes they exit and some maybe not but none go over 20 steps most strait down probably not good for tracking if a marginal shot is made never shot anything this deadly in my 40+ years of hunting

Have 2, one likes 150gr nosler bt's in front of h4350, the other 168 gr vld's in front of h1000 both zeroed at 300 yds, can stay on the top of the back on deer out to 450 & elk to 500 before I have to dial or use the mil dots depending on conditions, shoot a lot of different rifles including several 7-08's but it's hard to leave the 7mags at home when it comes to deer and elk out west

Hey y'all..I'm new to the mag word and I have acquired a 7mm Rem Mag....I hunt Louisiana whitetails and would like input on a good round. Thanks![/QUOTE

Reload or factory

Factory I'd stick with a premium 150-160 grain bullet. Will kill about anything u want. If you hunt thicker woods go with a little heavier bullet. Less deflection in thick stuff going through brush with a super light bullet. My 2 cents.

Reloads
160 grain accubond is hard to beat for whitetail or elk.
Load behind H1000, 4831, or reloader 22-26.

If it want shoot any of those either take shooting lesson or get a new gun.

Berger bullets or nosler bt's Just make sure something that will open up a lot of deer lost at short range with the 7 mags seems like we track a lot of deer in our club in Alabama shot with petitions

There Partitions Brother ,made in.284 in 140,150,160,&175 grainers ,but 140's more then enough for deer anywhere , no pun intended ,shot placement is still key , cheers !

None taken should pay more attention to my typing I shoot a 270wsm basically the same thing with 140-150's

There was an earlier comment about how much the Nosler BTs inflicted meat damage. Which factory ammo would you or others use to reduce meat damage as much as possible?

You cant use light and soft bullets at close ranges woth the 7mm Rem Mag at full speeds, they'll blow up on impact with low penetration and cause slow kills. These bulleta are the 139gr SST, thw 140gr Ballistic Tip, 140gr Sierra Game King SPBT, etc. They are going to fast and dont penetrate as required to produce a fast kill.

If you might encounter close up shots its beat to use a heavier bullet like the 160gr Accubond or 162gr SST, I would go with the 162gr SST and you can go for behind the shoulder shots if you want to avoid meat damage. You'll turn the lunga to jello and get and exit wound, and drop the deer on its tracks.

If you still want to run a light bullet and fast then use a 140gr accubond, but, if meat damage is a concern, then use a monolithic like a hammer bullet, a 131gr Hammer Hunter or 136gr Sledge Hammer and you're set.
