7mm 08 reduced load

Really good article about it, look for cast load data as you can use it for jacketed bullets too. Unique is a good powder for reduced loads since it's unlikely that you can get Trailboss until maybe next year.

jimbires recommendation is exactly right. H4895 can be reduced to as low as 60% of Hodgdon max recommended charge with bullet weight you re using. I ve found around 70% very soft shooting and accurate.

One last suggestion, IF, you can find a single shot pistol bullet, Hornady and Sierra both made them at one time, 120 and 130 grain respectively, they work fantastic. They were designed for that 2500- 2800 fps max velocity for single shot pistols!

Good Luck.

I have a supply of the 130 gr Sierras. They were very efficient on whitetails out of a magnum research lone eagle. PM me if interested.

I too use H4895 and Nosler BTs. I followed Hodgdon's recommendation starting at 60%. My best groups in my granddaughter's Tikka 7mm-08 were at 70% which gave me 2, 021 fps and consistently under 1.0" for 5 shot groups. Depending on the day, wind, BP, etc it would shoot from 5/16-1 " with 5 shot groups. One example:

That ll get her done to 200+ yds!!

Daughter shot a mule deer buck at 290 yards with a 120 SSP (Hor Single Shot Pistol) bullet started at 2650 and it did a perfect job. Good expansion and just under the hide on off side of buck.

Don't overlook a good recoil pad. It makes a world of difference even with full loads. My granddaughter shoots a 7-08 with 120's and near full loads......no problem.

At the bottom with double asterisks is reduced recoil loads; AA5744 is mentioned in the hand loading article too.
