7 SAUM and 162 eldx

I have a good load with 180 gr Bergers with my rifle. 61.4 gr of RL 26 gets me 2900 FPS. Lone Peak arms action and a 25 in Bartlein barrel.

Thanks Bruce. My rifle is a lone peak as well with a 24" proof. I'd be thrilled with 2900. Any pressure signs?

That load has primers somewhat flattened. No ejector swipe that I can notice and the bolt lifts freely. It is close to max in my rifle. Start lower and work up. You should be able to get close to that. Took 2 deer and a antelope with the 180 last yr. 2 were DRT going down so hard they bounced. Try them, I think you'll like them.

I use 61.8 RL26 with the 162 ELD-M in Norma brass.
2970 fps and my drops at 953 yards show a BC of 650
Only 65 rounds through the barrel so I expect it to speed up a little.
Primers and brass look fine, pressure is around 63 grains
24" bartlein

Still waiting for it to get cold enough to see how the temp stability is but I have had good luck with other chamberings and RL26 so hope to see the same kind of stability in the 7 SAUM

H1000 looked good at around 62 grains but 150 fps slower, I may give H4831SC a go later on.

I am at 61.5 RL26 180 VLD seated at the lands. 3000 FPS 24" Proof, LPA Ti action
and 61.5 H4831sc under 168 vld seated at the lands and right at 3000 fps as well. 58 grains of 4831sc shot really well under the 180 vlds too. I think it was around 2800 FPS.

This is my exact build. The rifle I'm getting has a LPA RazorTi and 24" proof barrel. The load he's sending me is 4831SC and 180vld at around 3000. I'm def gonna have to verify those velocities when I get it. Is your rifle throated for the 168 and 180VLD?

Yes, It is in a short action. The 58 grains of 4831sc was at the lower end of the spectrum. I will have to look at my log and see what the velocity was. I am not sure I could get to 3000 (with 180's) with 4831sc before pressuring up. I do know the other two loads were right at 3000 fps with very low es.

Can anyone provide feedback on freebore for their reamers used? Im doing a short action 7saum build for a friend and plan to shoot the 168vld or 162 eldx bullets. Looking to have a 3.000" oal to touch the rifling.

Thanks for any help

My 7 SAUM chamber was done by Jon Beanland. He told me his reamer had 0.140" freebore. He also had another reamer that had shorter freebore, but I don't recall that number.

On my chamber with 0.140" freebore, I get an OAL of right at 3.0175" jammed into the lands (jammed enough to make bolt closure tight) with the Hornady 162 ELDX.

The Berger 168 VLDH ends up right at 3.030" or so.
