7 rem mag or 280 ack?

Old question but I have set parameters that I'm working in.
Gun is to be built. Will be saami spec 280 or 7 rem with 1/8 ish barrel.
I have:
7 rem mag dies and brass.
Hundreds of 180 gr bullets.
8 lbs H1000
Fed match primers 210 and 215
Currently have a ackley chamber 280 rifle and dies.
So I will need 280 ack saami dies and brass.
Tired of fire forming.
Rifle will have a 26 inch barrel and a brake.
Must hit 2950+ with 180 class bullets.
Will be used for 1k shooting and hunting.
RBros just posted a 280 ack for sale 24 inch running 2950 with 180's.
Thoughts?

I have both and prefer the AI. I'm getting between 2890 and 2910 fps with the 195s in a 8 twist 26" barrel. While I have not yet tried the 180s, I think 3000 fps is easily doable.

If H1000 is a set parameter, 7RM

The .280AI will make 2950 in a 26" bbl but I'm thinking it needs a double based powder to get there.

Good observation. I'm using N570.

I went though all current 7mm cartridges, and some older one's recently. I had 2 unfired REM 700 Sendero II barrels sitting here, both are factory 9 1/4" twists in 7RM. Looked at brass availability and decided to purchase 200 R-P 7STW cases and a reamer and chamber both barrels at the same time for the one action.
I am really happy with my decision, I had 2 7RUM's that lasted only 700 rounds with good accuracy, this cartridge should go beyond a thousand rounds with the powders I use.
With the choices you have listed, the 7RM would be my choice hitting 3,000fps with 180's, pressure is not going to be an issue in that cartridge doing so.

With the choices you have listed, the 7RM would be my choice hitting 3,000fps with 180's, pressure is not going to be an issue in that cartridge doing so.

ADDED as an FYI only - for what it is worth.

Maximum SAAMI pressure - 7MM RM = 62,366 PSI, .280 RM = 60, 000 PSI.

280ai is amazing and if you reload I'd go with that over the 7mag bc you can get similar speeds. Factory ammo is great as well but a touch slower. 280ai is now available in many places but 7mag wins here. Killing authority … splitting hairs slight win to a mag. Ammo capacity in a fun 4vs 3 so 280ai… recoil sensitive ? Also similar with slight edge to the 280ai. To me to close not to lean toward the ai as a reloaded. If you really want to shoot heavy bullets shoot the prc. Most mags and AIs are in 1:9 so you can always build one of those in a faster twist. The ever loving ramble of this over that when they are both great and very similar….
