6mm _________ you fill in the blank

Or you could just run ~48 grains of Reloder 26 in a standard .243 Win and push the 105's to 3,400fps ....
There are lots and lots of options.
I run 44gr of RL26 in a 6SLR with 115 Dtacs - 3000fps. This is very low pressure and has room for more, but 48grs at 3400? Sounds a bit boastful.

Wouldn't ya know it. I just jumped from 6x47Lapua to what I thought was the end all 6mm cartridge, the 6 Creedmoor! I'm either a day late or a dollar short. Dang! Looks like a winner winner.

You are right!
I have a 6wsm and it's smokin.
I shot an antelope at 1020 yds with it. I'm shooting the old 115 Dtacs and retumbo..
It shoots tiny groups at 100yds too. I tried the Berger 105 hybrids but all of them didn't make it to the target!
Now that I have a labradar I need to check the speed.

I read this with interest, noting if it's wildcatting, it's always interesting to someone. I have had 6mm/284's and the one with the 32 inch Krieger barrel pushed the 105 Sierra to 3,560 fps over an Oehler 43. Bergers would disappear then into a grey smudge before getting to the target! Reality set in when ina subsequent velocity check I found I had lost 200 fps with the same load. So, the reality was "there is no free lunch", the throat was gone in 450 rounds, at that velocity.
Enjoy yourselves gentlemen!

All I can say is the 6SST is amazing so far.

I really don't have a problem with the fact that there are 8 other 6mm wildcats that will match the speed. Another way to skin a cat, but a bit better fit. I like being different. Which is why I have some of the wildcats I have had or still have. .250AI, .25-06AI, .270AI, .280AI (which is now VERY popular), 6.5 SLR, 6.5 SS, .260AI. I am sure I will have others in the future as well. The 6SST will be an amazing varmint/medium game killer like others that have come before it, and after it.

The 6.5CM does nothing that MANY other rounds can match or exceed, but look at the boom of people shooting it. Same will be said for the 6.5 PRC I am sure. All about the marketing and hype.

The 6.5SS has a great niche that it fills by matching the 6.5SAUM with the ability to seat the bullets out a bit further and still fit in a true SA action easier. Same with the 7SS, etc.

The 6SST will hopefully catch on a bit for a hunting round. Is it an entirely new thought/concept? A 6mm bullet pushed to 3400fps? Nope. But neither were the muscle cars of the late 60s. Pick your poison. Ford vs Chevy vs Pontiac vs Dodge.

There were plenty of threads on here in the Hide about it where everyone thought their chronos were broken. I had flat primers at 3420fps , 26" tube, Fed brass, Labradar. WW brass gave ~30fps less

I like the 6-06 A.I. for a long action. 8 twist , 3500 fps 95 smk or 3470 w 107gr. Deadly on coyotes. But getting ready to build a 7wsm to go with my 6.5 wsm.

This wasn't very nice of me:( I've been a part of a thread jacking. Sorry Sable

You could call it the "6mm SCM" (Sub Compact Magnum). Ruger would maybe even be interested if they don't already have some test barrels:D

6mm SCreaMer.

Quite a few years ago with the advent of the 6.5 RSAUM, GAP or whatever you choose for a name, there occurred the usual, 'what would happen if we necked it down to 6mm?' As has happened with virtually every new case brought into existence, some crafty person immediately necks that case up and down as far as is physically possible just to be the first and to lay claim to that title and the naming rights.

Well, when we necked the 7mm RSAUM cases down to 6.5mm and got a handle on the process for the sake on consistency, we took a few cases with the necks turned and squeezed them down once more. Voile! 6mm RSAUM or whatever... Now, stuff a premium 105gr. VLD target or hunting bullet into that case and you have the potential for a real screamer. It can be loaded down to 3150 fps to qualify for the PRS folks or filled to the rim with Retumbo and exit the muzzle at a sizzling 3,400 fps. And all of this accomplished (OMG!;)) in a short action using a standard SA magazine (2.825"), no muss, no fuss, no mess using a WSM box with cutouts. Actually the OAL was running 2.825" with those currently available VLDs.

Fast forward to the current day where we are reaping the benefits of yet another batch of new cartridge cases. Enter the 6.5 PRC.

Take some of the readily available 6.5 PRC brass and neck size it down to accept the 6mm bullet and you have the 6mm _____ (you name it;), I didn't...). Once again we have achieved a larger capacity 6mm cartridge which has an OAL of 2.806" using a 105 gr. VLD of your choosing and less powder than the 6mm RSAUM! Better yet, no mag boxes with little triangular windows needed. You can do a minor clean up on the neck but it hasn't been necessary yet. Velocity? 3150 fps up a bit over 3,400 fps., all with a 26" barrel.

Pretty neat, huh? :D What do you think?
I think the same today as I did a week ago, Hornady brass sucks. It is a good think Hornady makes good bullets, they would starve if they had to relie on brass sales to eat.
