Just wondering if anyone out there has tried this wildcat with a fast(1-8") twist barrel for longer range varmint/small whitetails with heavy for caliber bullets? Curious of results, barrel life, terminal performance.
Thanks
Daniel

Just sold one of these rifles, check the guns for sale section.

Rifle was shooting the 95 gr bullets with Retumbo powder. Barrel life was poor at best...

I certainly would not build another one again as there are better choices for the fast 6mm's with much better barrel life.

Took the words out of my mouth Judd..

I have a custom 240 Wby with a 9 tw barrel that shoots the 105 gr bullets at 3380 fps. A great long range varmint/small whitetail cartridge.

Buffalobob on here has one as well and he has taken Antelope with his at extended ranges. He shoots the 115 gr bullets.

My wife loves her 240 wby. It is a very accurate rifle. I also shoot the 240 gibbs which is the fastest I shoot. 6mm-06 imp is very accurate and slightly slower than the gibbs. Agree, the 6mm-257 wby is to much powder down the tube for 6mm=barrel burner. The 240 gibbs is the best I have found for most velocity with barrel life.

Another vote for a 6x284 OR one of my personal favs, a 6mm Remington Ackley Improved. Plenty of neck length and a 40 degree shoulder to theoritically save your throat life (as much as possible, LOL).

JMHO, I have a 6mm-06 Ackley in addition to my fav. 6mm Ackley. It is basically a 240 Wby without a belt, plus a few FPS, which I personally hate belts.

Truly doubtful if you will see a huge increase of velocity with the 6-257WBY over the above calibers.

I ran 115 vlds thru my broughton 5c with a 1-8" twist. Never had any come apart and I shot both the hunting and target jackets.

I ran them from 3175 up to almost 3300 fps but my accuracy sweet spot was 3175. After 3200 my accuracy went to ****.
