6.5x55 Swede testimonials

Bought a 96 engineer carbine many moons ago to rebarrel but made the mistake of shooting it, what a great little shooter! Bought a Tikka lite a couple years ago that has done everything I've asked and more. Took three critters this fall all right at 260 yards and all went to the ground right then and there. An antelope at 450 yards the first year didn't fair any betterView attachment 230172View attachment 230173View attachment 230174

Nice rifle. What bullet did you use for elk?

I've been wanting a 6.5 Swede in Mannlicher stock for some **** reason myself. I look at the performance like this. The Swede launching the same bullet as a 260, 6.5CM or 6.5X47 will have the performance on game as those do. Same bullet, basically the same speed gives the same result. I say build it, millions of Scandinavia's couldn't be wrong!!!
They are awesome. I wanted one for a long time and found a CZ 550FS before they were discontinued. It is my go to rifle. It does its job very well. It's only quirk is it doesn't like solid copper bullets.

I was deer hunting or would have had a better rig for the task, the Sweede works for elk but there is a 7mag, 3006 and a 338 in the safe better suited to elk hunting?
The 143ELDx shoots better but last fall all I could find was 147ELDm.
It blew a big hole out the offside of the antelope,, the offside hide caught it on the mulie and it hit the neck vertebra on the elk but didnt have time to recover. A big WOP when they hit and all three critters dropped on the spot!
Went for the neck on the bull, this bullet would be very iffy if put in the shoulder of an elk.
The bullet retrieved from the mulie had doubled its diameter and lost half of its weight.

I got one of the Brownells barrels and the twist is 1:9.5 I think? All the reviews say that it's a slower twist for the caliber and therefore shoots lighter bullets better. I read that 135gr is about max for consistent accuracy. I would love to shoot 140-150 class bullets, but I was too cheap to order a custom barrel.
