I'm re-barreling one of my 6.5X284's and I also will be trying to keep weight down. After long thought I decided that 26" is of great value and so am spending the extra $ for a Proof Research Light Sendero finished @ 26" I felt the compromise was worth the extra performance and no brake. I agree that 24" is the shortest I'd go.
