6.5x06 Hammer 121gr bullet

Spent some time this morning with my 6.5x06 & the Hammer 121gr. This rifle has an E.R. Shaw 24" stainless Bbl with 1/8 twist. The load given is for my rifle & is safe in my rifle. Info given is for general info only. My max load was 51.5 grs of IMR-4350 & the CCI #200 LR primer. Bullet seated about .030 off the lands. Cases are Rem reformed 30-06 brass sized down to 6.5x06 in one pass thru my FL sizer. Velocity was 3238 fps 10' in front of my chrono. Absolutely not the slighest sign of excessive pressure. As for the group I have never in my life shot a three shot group like this. I tried the 121 gr Hammer in this rifle because it just would not group the 120gr Barnes good enough for hunting accuracy. The threes shot group is above the first square box. Sighted 2" high @ 100 it is dead on at 225yds on my range at an elevation of 7630'. As an interesting note I weighted 20 of these 121gr Hammer bullets & they all weighted 122.7 to 122.8 grs.

Why did you choose the 121 gr instead of the 124 gr?

The reason I went with the 121gr Hammer is because I have been using the Barnes 120gr X & now the 120 TSX/TTSx for elk every year since 1994 with no problem, Always complete penetration. So it was easy to transition to the 121 gr Hammer. This past season I took a very mature elk with one shot ( DRT ) with complete penetration thru both front shoulders. As I mentioned in my post the Hammer 121gr bullets I received actually weighted 122.7 to 122.8 grs. Say 123gr rounded off. The overwhelming amount of elk & deer I have taken for as long as I can remember has been under 200yds. Maybe two or three at a little over 300yds. Also this 121gr Hammer has given me excellent accuracy in both 1/8 & 1/9 twist 6.5 cal rifles.
