6.5 velocities

Im

I'm with you on the 6.5 C. I've tried 5 powders, bullets and primers and can't get over 2800 unless I use a hammer to get the bolt open.
What barrel length are you running?

My PRS rifle runs a 24" and 140's at 2800 with hornady brass and 46 grains rl26. My proof 20 and Peterson brass will run 2800 in the winter with 45 grains rl26. It's a hot load. For temps over 50 I need to drop to 2600-2650 in the 20". I am testing 135's and see 2650 with no pressure signs at all. I may use this bullet from now on in the shorty.

For hunting medium sized game from 100-1000 yards I found 2975-3020FPS out if my 6.5x284's with 140 class VLD's to be an accuracy/ballistic/terminal performance sweet spot. For mid range hunting and PRS/ competition with my 260 Rem, 6.5x47, and 6.5CM, I run the 140's at 2850.

The best not to over bore 6.5 round in my honest opinion is the 6.5-257 weatherby.
26 inch
147 eldm
Retumbo
3275 fps
Not max.
It will push a host of different 140 class bullets 3250 to 3300. Easily.
My other favorite is the 6.5 Saum. I haven't shot it much because I just built it but it looks to be 100 fps less than the 6.5-257 wby.
The 6.5-300 uses a ton more powder for small gain. Same with 26 nosler.
The majority of time the 6.5 creed is enough for me.
147eldm with 28 inch
H4350@2850 1000 yard match load
Rl26@2950 hunting load.
24 inch.
I have reamers and throated for all.

Have 3 6.5 creedmoors running 140s at 2900-2930 FPS with RL 16. Using 42.4-43gr with SDs under 4 in all of them.

Way to many variables but usually the more powder you burn the fast the projectile goes. Big magnums are going to smoke a standard short action. I'll keep my results to 1 bullet weight for comparison purposes only.

140 in all

6.5 Creed.
20"- 2700
24"-2800

6.5-284
24- 2920
26- 3000
28-3100
28.5-3150

260
26-2800

6.5 PRC
22- 3050
Holly he'll that 6.5 is smoking! Is that max load?

6.5 Sherman Shortmag. 140 VLD's , 60 gr N570. I get 3248 fps (average from labradar) this is a 26" barrel. I want to try the new 156 berger bullets but this thing is so accurate it's not a huge priority. As far as a short action goes. the Sherman Shortmags cant be beat if you want a magazine fed rifle. This is my heavy hunting rifle as well. Love it so . much im on my second barrel. will be time for a 3rd soon.
What is the barrel life of this cartridge?

6.5-284
24" barrel
140 VLD
4831sc
2950 fps
This gives me 1/4 MOA all day long. I can push it faster but accuracy suffers.

6.5 Creedmoor
24" barrel
143 ELD-X
4350
2860 fps

6.5 PRC
24" barrel
Hornady factory ammo is averaging 2970 fps with 1/2 MOA so I'm hoping to get to around 3100 with handloads using the 143 ELD-X

I really love my 6.5CM. It's extremely easy to shoot and it shoots very well. I'm just disappointed in my velocities. I've tried two powders and two primers so far. My velocities are in the mid to upper 2500's. I'm going to try Reloader 16 tomorrow to see what it yields.
What combination did you use to obtain 2800 from the 143 ELDX's. 24in. barrel?

I am in a 26" barrel, should have included that in the original post. I am running 41.7gr of H4350 in nosler brass with a cci br2 primer.
