6.5 PRC large rifle vs large rifle magnum primers

this is a combo I had in mind. What was your load work up with this combo?

I used 58.5gr H4831sc in a Hornady case with a Fed 215M with the 124 Hammer bullet. I run the Hammers at .082" off the rifling to maximize neck bearing surface. Velocity was 3,093 ft/sec with an SD of 5. Group was .63" at 200yds.

I assume that you could get 3,200 ft/sec with the 124 H but I just haven't loaded any higher yet.

I also tried 58.5gr of RE26 under that Hammer bullet. Velocity was 3,114 ft/sec but the SD was 20 ????? Group was 1.40" at 200yds.

I have some experience with 22" proof barrel and RL26. We have a 6.5 PRC running the 156 EOLs at 3000 fps. Heavy bolt lift using cci 250 primers but no heavy bolt when switching to cci 200. Same powder charge and velocity using both primers but no heavy bolt lift with the regular primers. As a general rule I load all PRCs with mag primers but it looks like regular primers will work fine and may be preferred with RL26 and heavies
How much powder are u loading? I'm loading for a seekins with a 21" barrell. I'm loading 57.6 grains of R26 with the 156 eol's and only getting about 2915. Just curious. Im not showing any pressure signs but berger is saying max is 57.8

In my 6.5prc, I have tried and tested magnum and regular large rifle primers with Re23, Re26 and IMR8133. I've always had better luck with es, sd and accuracy using regular cci200 or fed210m with my prc. I've played with mine a lot with a lot of different bullets in weight ranges from 125-156 and I've always got a load that held tight from 100-1,100 yards. Depending on what you plan to do with the rifle, if long range accuracy and consistency is what your after I feel like for me the regular primers like fed 210m and cci200 works great for me and others as well, most shooters that shoot the 6.5prc use the cci200 and fed210m's.

I am having a 6.5 PRC being built on a 22inch 1:8 proof barrel. I have RL-26, H1000, and H4831sc powders. I haven't determined the bullet yet bc I don't het have the gun, but am interested in the 124gr HH, 127 LRX, or something like the 140gr Accubonds. I have CCI 250 and Fed215 primers on hand but wondering if for the 6.5 PRC I should invest in some Fed210?

What is everyone's experience with large rifle primers vs large magnum rifle primers for the 6.5 PRC?

Thanks in advance
I'm shooting CCI BR2s in my 6.5 PRC. I tried magnums but my ES and SD went wacky. You can use either but one might work better in your specific rifle. I found the same issues in the 300 WSMs I used to load for. From my experience the short fat cases work great with standard primers.

I have a Seekins 1-8 ,24". (set up right before hunting season) I tested the Fed GM210M's and GM215M's with RL26, and the 143gr ELDX. It was a short test due to time constraints. I got no major pressure signs or heavy bolt lift with the magnum's and very little change in MV. The SD and ES were better (however slightly) with the 210M's so I went with that. My load ended up being new ADG brass, GM210M, 57gr RL26, COAL 2.950, MV 2945 and 1/2" 3 shot averages at 200yds. Good luck with you project!

I just finished load development on two 6.5PRCs.
Both 24" 1:8" barrels.
1st was a 144 LR Hyb over N565 w. Fed GM210M @ 2948fps.
2nd was a 140 Hyb over RL23 w. Fed GM215M @ 2935fps.
Neither load was max, but both were crazy accurate.
Flip a coin, try what you have first.

How is your accuracy with that load?

I agree.
I always try magnums and standards doing ANY load development with any powder of choice because like you said you just never know what's going to work and what's not going to. So in my load development I load 4 strings with the same powder and amount with differing primers and see what gives me the the velocity, es, sd and the less vertical at 600yrds. The yardage I shoot also depends on the quality and consistency of the bullet.
In the long run in my prc the standard primers work the best, and I only use federal210m and cci200. I do have a variety of others but I don't usually see them at my local so I don't try them unless I really can't find a load with my usual primers.

I have a 6.5-06 & use whatever primer I can get with good results but sort of have a preference for CCI 250's . CCI #34, that mil spec primer, sort of un-loved, works well. The case capacities of both 6.5-06 & 6.5 PRC are close. I use a wide variety of available powders, like whatever I can get and am presently working on 8 pounds of VihtaVouri (foreign) VN165 with CCI 34's & 130 grain bullets. Velocities just at 3,050. I am interested in a 6.5 PRC but am waiting for brass supplies to increase.

Ok I'm running a 6.5 prc by alamo its a 24" 1-8 twist proof barrel, lonepeak fusion ti action, lapua brass, cci 250 mag primer, berger 140 elite hunter bullet, 56 grs h4831sc, set .050 off riflings running at 2980fps, 140 is a 3 shot group.
Also have a load lapua brass, cci mag primer, berger 156 elite hunter, 56 grs h1000 set .010 off riflings running at 2790fps, 156 group is a 5 shot group.
I just got a brick of 1000 cci regular large rifle primers today I'm going to try a few three shot groups and see if any better. Groups would be better if I did'nt do the fliers. lol
