6.5 Creedmoor loads

I bought my wife a 6.5 Creedmoor for Xmas it shoots the factory Hornady ammo pretty good but I wanna see what it will do with hand loads with 140 grn bullets like 140 berger, 140 eld-m and 143 eld-x what powders tend to get best velocity and accuracy for the 6.5 Creedmoor I may also try some bullets in 120-130 grn range aswell

What is the twist of your barrel? what kind of a scope do you have on it? Is the mount solid with no loose screws?

Finally got to the range yesterday to chrono the factory ammo I bought, as well as get enough shot to have brass to reload for my new Creedmoor. It was a VERY WINDY DAY....20+ mph. The Hornady ELDMs shot real good with groups of .298" & .416" with two 5 shot strings that averaged 2747 & 2782 fps with Exterme Spreads of 57 & 29. The ELD-X Precision Hunter ammo didn't do so well with the best group being .712" at 2723 avg with ES of 44. The VLDs from Copper Creek Cartridge Co shot ok....130s at 2775 fps with ES of 81 and .493".....140s at 2665 fps with ES of 42 and .465". These were all approx. .005 off the lands.

Now that I have brass, I'm looking forward to working up loads with different bullet seating depths to see what I can get out of it!

My new build is doing very well. Tried H4350 only. Here is my load info. Be careful with this load. Start at recommending load data with Berger bullets.
H4350 (43.0)
Fed210m
Berger 140 Hybrids 30 thou off lands
Prime brass FL sized

A 10 shot group at 100 yards yesterday

I run 41.5 grains of h4350 behind a 140 Berger hybrid. .015 off the lands. Shooting in the .15-.25 range if I do my part. I'm not sure of the speed yet but from shooting to 700 yards it's about 2550

I've been loading for 2 savage creedmoors:

Varget shoots the 120/123 so well I haven't tried another powder. 39 grains gave great results in both guns.
Ramshot hunter was the ticket with the 130 bergers- 43.6 gr. .10 to .13 off lands
IMR 4007 ssc gives best accuracy & velocity in the 100 gr bullets
Shoot 140's in my swede but haven't tried them in my Creedmoor....most of my shots in east Texas are under 100 yards & small fast monolithics have become my preferred poison.

Is it a little hard to get the Creedmoor pushing a 140 preferable a berger 140VLD to 2800fps. I think this might would be a maxed out load for this gun. If so then the 130 might better suited. thinking of a barrel swap on the wifes 243. The creed seem a lot more of a capable cartridge for an all around low recoil gun.

Depending on barrel length, you should have no problems achieving 2800 fps especially with rl-17. Both my dad and I had the same load that worked up for hunting with the 140 A-max. His is a 22 in and he was 2840 fps and I had a 24in and I was able to get 2880 with absolutely no pressure signs. Every rifle is different though and this load was alittle hot. Both our rifles with this load were .5moa.

If I have my wife's rifle changed out it will probably get a 26 inch barrel and a new stock. Will have the action trued also. But from what I've been hearing I could get a pretty decent off the shelf gun and with some hand loading getting it down to .5moa. Custom is always nice though.

I'm trying to find a load that my Howa Alpine likes.
So far most loads tried have been nowhere near the inch, more like 1.25" to 1.50.
It does not like the suggested powders H4359 or RL17.
However, it only has a 20" barrel so maybe I cannot expect better.

My Howa with 24'' barrel shot almost every factory load from 129 American eagle match to 140 grain Winchester match under an inch @ 100. my current load is 42.6 grains of H4350 in Hornady brass topped with either a 140 grain Hornady Amax or ELD match. 2700 to 2715 fps roughly.

If your thinking off the shelf rifle then Id go with a Savage. My brother has the predator max-1 in 6.5 creed and its .4 all day long. I just bought a savage model 12 in 22-250 for a donor action for a build but I've been shooting it while getting the money for my build and my worst handload with it is .5 with my best group so far .196

I took it out again today and the results were no different.
140 gr. loads using H4350 went from a worst of 2.230 " to 1.54 ".
Two loads consisting of the 160 gr. Sierra over IMR 4350 and Win 760 both grouped exactly
1.30 ".
Does that mean that this little guy prefers a heavier bullet?

Is this your first lightweight rifle? If it is try holding the stock with your off hand while shooting for groups. It is hard to be consistent letting a lightweight rifle free recoil at the bench. I shoot both my R700 Ti and Savage 11 LWH this way and it is much easier to get good groupings.

My Savage 11 LWH 6.5 CM H4350 and 130 Berger HVLD 1/2 MOA

I'll second the M11 LWH...sweet rifle & mine groups factory hornady rounds .6 to .75 & handloads .5 like clockwork. Only downside is the 20 inch tube. Mine's a woods gun & it is hell on whitetails. I bury mine in a bull bag when grouping- no problems. Coyotezapper is right...if you lay it on top of a bag it won't group as well
