6.5 bullets on game

I used the 140 grain elite hunter in Africa last spring and it worked flawlessly on Kudu, Nyala, Impala and Warthog. All one shot kills. No issues. Shot the Kudu at just under 400 yards, the Nyala at 187 yards, the impala at 288 yards and the warthog at about 70. It did not drop any of them in their tracks but none went more than ten to fifteen yards from where they were hit. Would not hesitate to shoot deer and antelope with them here in the states either. These were shot with a 6.5 x 284 and the velocity was only 2760 fps as that is the velocity where my rifle shoots the best groups. I have not personally tried the 143 grain ELD-X yet but have a 6.5 Creedmoor that shoots them fantastic, just haven't had a chance to get one on an animal.

I run 123gr SST's in my 6.5 Grendel, one shot drops on hogs at 75-150yds (at night, about as far as my IR goes)
I run 140gr Accubonds in my 264WM, killed lots of Axis and Whitetail with this one! 540yd Mule Deer buck 2 years ago in NM. Dropped like a rock.
Whitetail rarely take a step, Axis have been known to run a little ways....sometimes

Also had good results with the 140 ProHunter between 200-400yds (longest shot on my place)

IMHO it's shot placement. My uncle raised cattle & had a meat shop. We'd drive out in the pasture & he'd tell me to pick one & hold his Nylon 66 22LR in 1 hand, shoot out the car window & drop 1000# of beef in it's tracks everytime then have his boys go get it with the loader.

Alot of concern is placed on accuracy when it comes to a bullet but not much on the bullets effect on game or at least not written about. What is everyone's experience with let's say Berger 140 elite Hunter, Hornady 143 eldx, Nosler accubond LR on game animals?
I have shot 6 Kansas whitetail deer from 150 yards to 550 yards the 550 was running full out all with the berger 140 hunting vld and not one of them have gone one more step
I shoot a 264 win mag at 3200 feet and it just kills them hard

I've run quite a few 6.5 Accubonds through deer, pigs, and elk at ranges from 50yds to 540yds. Performance has always been consistent and effective. I use 130gr in a 260 and 140gr in a 6.5 GAP. I haven't monkeyed with the LR version because I honestly don't see the need to with how well the regular Accubonds have always performed for me.

22 Hornet 45gr ProHunter…..Axis does fill the freezer!

Match the bullet weight and style to the game . Study what your load does get an accurate load and a bullet that does what you want it to for what you intend to hunt . Learn how to actually hunt not just glass spend as much time as you can studying your game and learn about their habits read up on them be out with them if you can . Use the bullet weight that is recommended for that animal by people that guide for them or have hunted them a lot study , study and study some more . Be the best hunter that you can with what you have to work with not many of use get to live with the animals we hunt as used to . S F operators have to learn about their Quarry or they won't live to be very old some of the game we hunt or the animals around our hunting areas can and will kill you , bears cougars ect. learn to be observant to your surroundings . If we hunt out West we aren't going for a walk at the zoo these animals aren't pets . Every year you can read or see people hurt or killed by grizzly , bison , cougar , rattle snakes ect. . Learn about your rifle and ammo performance prepare your self for your hunt area be as fit as you can and as ready as you can for what you can find in the area you will hunt if you don't live there . Time to get off my soap box .

I have shot several white tails under 300 yards and had very good performance from the 143 ELDX but will be shooting the barnes 127 gr . LRX which Should give me the speed and integrity I always look for in bullet construction . I prefer the monolithic bullets JMHO

All those bullets do extremely well on game if you do your part. My hunting partner killed a nice elk 2 years ago with a 6.5 CM and the the ELD-X. One shot drop, tad under 300 yards and dead right there. I am a fan of Berger's. Antelope and mule deer taken over 500 yards with my .260 and the 140 VLD's. Super accurate and great bullet performance. I'm sure you will hear negative reports on just about any of the bullets you mention but in general they will perform as advertised.

Well my girlfriend shot this doe at 62 yards with my 260 Rem 140 grain Berger VLDs.

Have taken 2 Antelope,a deer and an Auodad with 6.5 PRC and 135 Berger Classic Hunter and it is a hammer on that size game! I am very uneasy of a 6.5 on elk but will likely try to fill a cow tag with the 156 Berger from a new PRC. Auodad are tough and the 135 worked well

I am not impressed with any of the fragile bullets on game. They may kill like lightning on a perfect lung shot but they limit shot placement far too much. Very often, the presentation is quartering to, or away and the possibility of having to shoot through bone is high. This is where a bonded, or partition is far superior to those Bergers and ELD-X & M bullets. I have taken a lot of game over the past 60 years, and I will gladly give up 1/2 moa to use a bullet that is always going to get to the heart-lung area whether it has to break bone or not. Dave
