How did u modify the mag if u don't mind me asking? A Savage would be fine with me. Just trying out my options

It looks awesome...but that's one provider and I'm sure he's an awesome guy but there is about 20 places I can go for 270 wsm brass and I already have enough to get me started. I just don't see the lore behind this SS case.
 
If you go with a savage Northland shooter supply is pretty much a one stop shop for what your looking for, trued action, recoil lug, barrel nut and a shilen 6.5x300 wsm, they have trued Remingtons but no barrel in that cartridge from what I seen, they also have Bighorn actions if you want to go with a custom action
 
I know i'm opening a can of worms, but i have a thick skin. Here goes anything built on a savage does not have to be trued up barrel or face. I have done several barrel changes on savages bolt action and the barrel nut sets your headspace. Action and barrel do not touch. Lot of shooters do this change and it is very simple.

After skimming the site tho, I dont see a reminder/Savage with a magnum bolt face. Just my luck :rolleyes:

I guess I could always have it opened
 
Tbh I didn't look for the magnum bolt face, just assumed they had one, they might be able to get you one but idk
 
Hello, I can't really address your rifle/cartridge choice however I can speak to the LE side of things....not sure what state you're from but I've been in the career out here in Crazyfornia for over 20yrs. Been thru the various assignments including SWAT and Sniper, (both as an Operator and Commander) and moved onto supervision roles now. Being thru more than a few officer involved shootings, my advice would be to not get fancy with caliber and having to reload your own "duty ammo" Your state may be, (and probably is) very different than mine, however I have to assume that whatever state, if used in an on-duty incident your rifle, scope, ammo and whatever else is attached to it will become evidence until the case is more than likely adjudicated. It will be tested by your state crime lab and anything custom or not department standardized will take a fair amount of explanation on the stand during the trial, even more so should something go horribly wrong or unexpected!! LE Sniper shots are generally short in distance but require a high level of accuracy under some of the most demanding scenarios. The reason why most agencies near and far use the .308 is because it simply works for the task. Its not fancy, certainly not "cool" anymore but its been through the ringer. I'm sorry to be a nay-sayer but would hate to see a nice semi-custom rifle being stored on the evidence shelf in the crime lab.....best of luck in whatever you decide!!

Excellent post! I agree 100%! I'm not on our tac team nor am I a sniper. My best friend is our tac team sniper and while I've shot with him for 20 years I've never "trained" with him and the other tac guys. Maybe one day but as of right now I'm a bit to young and inexperienced to run with those guys. But after training with them, I started putting together what an ideal rifle would look like in order to maximize my effectiveness. I'm a smaller guy, no way I could make it to a rooftop in good time with a 20lb rifle (vs a 10lb.

So hopefully my tac guys will take care of me in those situations, but my department will let me carry what I wish. If it were up to me, I'd carry all my guns. Can u imagine if ONE person would have had a precision rifle during the north hollywood shootout while the 2 men ware covered in armor standing on the sidewalk shooting cops. Or when swat is 45min away and a shot presented itself?

I appreciate the concern. It is definitely needed. Lol and I'd like to add that police departments like 308's because they are CHEAP...which is why we like alot of things!
If it may save someone's life, I'll gladely stand trial for it but again, I totally understand the concern. In 99% of the cases, we use department issued ammunition. Just less liability and judicial headaches that way. We had a judge ask why we use hollow points in our Glocks vs fmj's. But again, thank you for all u do over in Cali! And I appreciate the post!
