i would like to hear from people that have a 6.5-284.I am interested in what real velocities people are getting.can u give this information..*bullet weight *barrel length *velocity in fps ....thank u

Hello 10X

I have a 6.5/284 with a 30" Kreiger (8 twist) that likes 4831 SC and the Sierra 142 MK. The speed for 1000 yd compititions is right at 3000-3050 FPS depending on the charge I want to use. Sometimes I back it to 2950 and it shoots well. I could get more velocity at the expense of brass and wasted barrel steel.

10X,
As Darryl said, around 3,000 seems to be what people shoot for target. For hunting, I have heard of people shooting the 140's over 3200fps. I am having one built in a few months mostly for competition but for some long range whitetail as well.
I just can't decide which reamer to use. I am thinking about the .290 tight neck.

thank you for this information.i am using sierra 140g match kings but only getting 2880 fps. i cant increase my load with out distroying cases.i would like to know how people can get such high velocities.

barrel length is 27 inches and the powder i am using is ADI AR2209 .this is an australian powder the chart gives it as being close to winchester 760.....so the load is winchester cases reformed, remington primers, 50 grains of AR2209 with a sierra 140 grain match king.

You say you are getting 2880 FPS velocity. Considering your barrel is 27", right away the velocity would be 100 FPS faster with a 30" Barrel as compaired to the 27".

The 4831 SC seems to give us very good accuracy along with the 3000 to 3050 FPS velocities.

If you ask Darryl or others for load data for H4831SC , you can directly interchange this with AR2213SC. It is the same powder, just re-named by Hodgdon for sale in the US.

Also, AR2209 is the same powder as H4350, just re-named for the US market. Again load data can be interchanged.

HELLO 10X I have a 6,5-284 and have been useing vvn165 53.0 gr behind a smk 142 gets me 2950 out of my 30 " 1-8 twst-load is mild in my rifle{rpa quadlock}action data lists all the way to 57grains wont tell you what my velocity was{wow-wow}untill I confirm with another chronograph.
good luck

hello! 10X
There is another way to reach higher velocities.I reach velocities of 3450 fps. without signs of exesive pressure. The bullets are 110gr HV bullets, manufactured by G.S Custom in South Africa. Visit their web site at: http://home.intekom.com/gunlinks/gscustom/
You will get all the info you need with load data etc[*]null
