6.5-284 Norma/130 Grain Cutting Edge Bullets (MTH)

The #6/7/8 seem good,
6, 7, 8 have almost 100 fps velocity spread, you are looking for something more like 5,6 or 8, 9 that have similar velocity AND land close on the target. Hopefully there would be 3 together

This is a continuation of my ladder test with the 130 grain cutting edge bullets (MTHG05).

I would say inconclusive target results with inconsistent velocities. Shots one and two were good and five and six were good, However they do not go in the traditional ladder fashion. Which I'm sure I'm partially to blame.

Looking back through my notes and this thread 49-49.5 grains seems to be very consistent as well as 47-47.5 grains. Shots five and six are close, however, they did show signs of pressure on the case. Pictured below from left to right are shots one through seven.

On the ladder you are generally looking for vertical dispersion only as wind can do funny things to the horizontal(although you say no wind). Shots #3-6 show 1.5" of vertical and a velocity spread of 70fps(kind of a lot) so I would try to work in the area of 3, 4, 5 or the 1 & 2 which are very close in velocity and vertical if you are happy with that speed, could try 48.5 grains and see how close it is to the 3030 fps. that could be a very good node.

By primers looks like you started getting heavy pressure on shot 4...
I would retry between 3 & 4 at .25gr....if you want to retain fps...should be able to squeeze in a node there....

Pressure will also be higher on the next round if the brass is virgin because now it will be formed to your chamber.

I would use a different powder, your case fill isnt very good. Also your FPS is down pretty far for a 130gr bullet.
True you will probably get a bit more speed with H1000 which is what I run with the 140 Berger, and H1000 has great heat stability like H4350.

These are 3X fires brass.

I have H1000, however, that is for my .338 Lapua.

I'm going to load a few rounds for groups now, but hard to give up the accuracy of my 140 Berger VLD Hunting.

If it weren't for the pulled shot to the far right, the 49 grain group would have been good. However, my ES was 37 and SD was 14 (3003 FPS Avg.). The 49.5 group number wise was similar. I'm not certain, I'll be going any further with these bullets.

A few recovered bullets from the backstop.
