Awhile back I had Chris Matthews of Longshot Rifles build me a new toy. I posted some real quick pics and really never gave any details because I was too busy playing with it.

So....That being said here it is.

Remington 700 Long Action trued and gone over with a fine tooth comb.

2.5 Lb Trigger that breaks like a glass rod
Broughton 5C SS barrel (chambered by Chris in 6.5-284)
Badger Bolt knob
Badger rings and bases...20 moa
McMillan A-5 Tactical weight stock and bedded for above
Bolt reworked to remove J lock and increase lock time
The Barrel and Action Teflon coated in MilSpec OD Green.
Also Blind Mag

Not sure if I forgot anything? Anyway, after several trips to the range and several different loads, all I can say is this baby shoots. Chris guarantees 1/2" MOA at 100 yards...HA!! This thing does better than that every time out

Posted 3rd place in the Mifflin groundhog shoot in June. Was placed in the unlimited class with the Bench rest boys and well....Came in 3rd. The day before the shoot I went to said range and recorded an awesome 500 yard group with witnesses I'll post below as well as 100 yard group, I wish I could of shot that 500 group at the match…hmmm too much pressure. A few Club members were shocked the way this baby was shooting. I also need to thank Rimfire for giving me his secret load /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif Wow does that shoot.

Anyway, here is a little gun porn of the LSR as well as some targets. Oh, the stray shot at 500 was the first shot...after windage change I shot the 3 shot group

Anyone even thinking of having a project done...Look no further than Longshot Rifles! Simply the best in my book.

Joe

Beautiful!!! Look like it shoots like a dream as well. Man do I love those A5 stocks. Hope to replace that boat anchor currently on my 270 AM w/one.

Mr Mathews sure does put together a lovely rifle, it looks just right with the A5. What was the group size at 500? I have had a similar project 6.5x284 with roughly the same work done by a well respected smith in the UK (Norman Clark)It was based on a donor Sendero - I had considered putting an A5 on it but it shoots so well with the HS stock (@2inch at 500), I cannot justify the expense to change to a Mcmillan. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

The group in the picture measured .636 @ 500 yards. Yea I know...here come the flames. But really, I did not measure the group, The witness did. Did it a few more times as well since then.
We also shot clay birds at 1000 yards with very consistant hits. Bucknutz was having a riot!

.636 at 500 yards? thats "impossible"!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif
Just kidding and making fun! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Very nice looking rifle indeed lablover!!
I plan on Sir Chris building me a 6.5X284 just as soon as I can get a stainless Rem 700 RH long action with the /06 bolt face. I may just have to let him supply that as well.
Great groups lab! Keep up the good shooting!!

Funny

I need a 700 short action for a bench gun for Chris to build me. Stainless.

Joe

/06 boltface or magnum or .223??
I just saw one with mag boltface somewhere from a sendero SAUM.

Found one....Thanks for the tip, I had a 22-250 here doing nothing. Blued, but it will work.

Lablover there is a couple of stainless remy short actions for sale over on varminthunter.com.
I hope to finalize my rig with Mr Matthews in the next week or so that way he can put me in line and order up my parts.
I hope it performs like yours and it should considering who will be building it! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
