6.5-06AI vs 25-06AI light rifle

I already have a couple 280AI, probably my favorite round
Target from .280Rem from Mauser Mod. 3000. Very windy that day so I kept to 50yd range.

Thane,

I considered .25 Gibbs but went with .257 WBY instead for my first .25 caliber rifle. The Gibbs wildcat cartridges are awesome. I do not have a .24 caliber and might do a .240 Gibbs. Dave rechambered my .30-06 to .30 Gibbs.

I started with the .25-06 AI and the 6.5-06 AI. Then I built the .240 Weatherby and now I've built the .240 Gibbs. While I like the Gibbs version, I feel more comfortable with the .240 Weatherby. Currently I'm working out a couple of the 8mm variations, AI of course.

:)

How did you like the 6.5-06ai vrs straight 6.5-06? Reason I wanted to do a 6.5-06 was mainly because I'm trying to get all same calibers. I've gone to basically 6.5 and 30-06 to be able to simplify components.

I shot out a 6.5-06 using Berger 140 VLD. Its a great round in so many areas. Mine was in a McMillan compact edge, 23" Hart #2 barrel, and built on an old lefthanded 700. It would shoot those around 2900 fps. Could get a little quicker but accuracy was there and killed all kinds of critters large and small.

I'd suggest straight 6.5-06, 6.5-284(what I rebarreled to), or 6.5-280ai. Great cartridges all. The 6.5-06 at 20" would likely be doing better than 2800 fps with a 140 vld. That'll take a guy a long ways out there.
