I was looking in pawn shops for a 700 in .308 but found a deal on a 700 7MM RM.
Are there any con's to building a 308. on this action.
Also where is the best place to find a bolt (.473 face) for this action.

Thanks

Ramp, it'll cost more than it's worth to use the Mag action, and it will still be too long. The best place to get a bolt is PT&G, but it'll still be a long action. Save your money and watch for a .308, .243, 7-08, .22-250, etc. All of them have the correct bolt face and all the factory guns are in a short action.

Good luck, Tom

Yes, but they are not easy to find. You will also need a different mag box for the smaller diameter cartridge. (like for a .30-06, .270, .280, etc). Maybe a bullet follower also. Even then, I would expect some feeding problems with the short cartridge.

Good luck, Tom

Thanks Tom

Amen on not being easy to find. I guess I'll have to build a 300 Rum .
I already have a 7mm-Rum & 7mm Mag & 7-08.(I love my 7's)
Just wanted something I could shoot alot that was easy on the barrel.
I know the 300 is not but I sure like my 7MM Rum.

Thanks
