I just made a thread on the possible results of not having enough clamping force/surface area grip on your optic -
As many have said, after that, I don't consider it piece of mind. It is a requirement on bigger guns if you want consistency. I think I'm going to start going 3 or 4 rings, or a heavy duty mount system like a spuhr or the Audere that Wedgy listed or similar on my lighter hunting rifles that burn anything over 60 grains of powder. I need to get at least one more Hawkins ring for my wife's rifle now, an 8.75 lb 7 Sherman Max. May not need it, but I would rather have it and not.
Light rifles, big cartridges, and scope mounts - learned my lesson, now it's time to pass it on.
I'll start this thread by saying that I am in no way bashing on the manufactured of the scope mount I used, it is in no way the mounts fault, but instead my fault for not choosing the appropriate mounting solution for the extreme situation I put it in. The mount I used is a quality piece of kit...
