375 Ruger Longest Range Load

rebarrel
it. 375 RUM necked to 35 cal. Might even kill as well as a creed, but probably just wishful thinking. Seriously I would just use the lightest pointed bullet it shot well. Will kill well with minimum expansion. Remember they shoot some big animals with solids. The front will at least flatten and transfer a lot of energy. Don't know about the ruger but the old hh will flatten them a long ways out.

My .358 Norma Magnum aspires to be as deadly as a 6.5 creed when it grows up 🤣

Maybe that cartridge and bore diameter will get some more love from projectile makers with these stupid laws. a silver lining?

I have shot a lot of pigs and whitetail deer with a 250 grain Sierra Game Kings. I run them right at 2700 FPS. My longest shot has been right at 275 yards on a feral pig. All complete pass throughs. Judging by the exit they open up some at 150 yards on our little whitetail deer and feral pigs. You are starting at .375! How big do you needs to end up? 100 to 150 yards stuff comes out the exit, expanding or not! Night before last it was big pieces of lungs and blood at 100 yards on a 86 pound boar! I have run the bullet diagonal on pigs and pulled out intestines! I would poke a .375 hole in an elk at 350! No such thing as "over kill". I have less meat damage with my 375 Ruger than I did with a 140 grain 270! two holes bleed a lot better than one! Try blood trailing at night is thick stuff! Other bullets work just fine also! I shot Barnes in Africa on plains game all one shot kills! My rifle loves Varget!

I hunted for many years with my 375 Weatherby using both the old 260g Ballistic Tip and continued with the 260g Accubond when introduced.
Those 2 have the same trajectory as a 30-06 firing 180g bullets and I have taken deer just beyond 500 metres without issue.
Also used Sierra 300g Game Kings and they too, will shoot beyond 450 metres with little trouble. Doesn't take much to kill deer with a 375.

Cheers.

Please read the Iowa regs as stated on page 38 of the linked information:

https://www.iowadnr.gov/Portals/idnr/uploads/Hunting/huntingregs.pdf

RIFLES: Rifles firing straight wall or other cen-
terfire ammunition propelling an expanding-type
bullet with a maximum diameter of no less than
.350 of an inch and no larger than .500 of an inch
and with a published or calculated muzzle energy
of 500 foot pounds or higher is legal for hunting
deer during the youth and disabled hunting season

and first and second shotgun seasons.

This has nothing to do with general hunting regulations at all, it's for youth and disabled hunters.

Enjoy!

It says first and second shotgun season, that is their Deer season.

Looking for some advice on the longest range load for this particular caliber. Specific to whitetails. I know it's an odd caliber but some new legislation has made this legal where I am hunting (.35 caliber and above). I've had this gun for sometime and the current load I have is reloader 17 and nosler's 260 accubond. Also have some older 260 nosler ballistic tips. Both shoot well and average 2825 fps.

I've looked at the 4Dof charts to get an idea of velocity down range. I don't have any experience with the references projectiles to decern their ability to open down around 2000 fps.

Is there a better long range projectile for extending my range whitetail hunting? Do any of you have experience with these Nosler bullets past 300 yards?

My apologies if this is in the wrong forum. Any advice here would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Stay your course; there is nothing wrong with what load/bullet you currently have at 300Y. Do not overcomplicate it unnecessarily—happy safe hunting.

It states AND first and second season shotgun season.

The point is that the exception everyone is trying to emphasize for centerfire is stated as being limited to youth and disabled hunters, not the general population of hunters.

Now, if there is more to these regulations that the Iowans are not letting us in on, we should read those as well.

Thanks!

Pretty sure, everybody can use the rifle cartridges for regular deer season, youth, disabled AND 1st and 2nd deer season. Youth is usually early season, as they give the kids a 1st crack at the deer. Not sure why, they'd wanna make Remington 375 ultra mag, legal only for a disabled person or 12 year old kids

Pretty sure...

I'm not trying to be disagreeable at all, believe me. I'm trying to show the dichotomy of the wording as written by the legislature and G&F.

'Pretty sure' doesn't instill confidence where the law in involved.;)

Don't take any of this personally, I just want to know.

:)
