its ok kelly, its just a dave viers built snipetac for sale here in australia, very nice rifle, but nothing more special than that.
Thing is for me kelly, i really dont see the point in building a HUNTING rifle for the 400+gr solids... i really doubt that i will ever be able to hunt an animal at 3km away.... ive had a hard time finding and spotting them, let alone ranging them anything over 1000yds where i hunt...
Those missle shaped solids would be great for ringing steel at 3k or just varminting however... but this is not hunting and therefore dont need to expand... simply fire away and walk the shots in.... but you would need some very impressive ranging gear to be able to range a game animal that far away, let alone have confidence in ethical kills ... therefore, id wager that even the plain old 350gr SMK @ 3200fps is adequate for anybodys hunting requirements, no matter where they live or what they hunt... I really dont see the point in building such an expensive, 1 bullet gun with a super fast twist (that uses expensive bullets aswell) just to break records maybe? no doubt at the cost of many injured animals...
thus my descision to use 1 :10 twist, there is already hunting bullets available, and i can use it for 350gr high BC solids for target work to 2500yds, just not the ultra high BC ones for 3k+ gun)
im also starting to think, that if the SMK`s will hold together, a 1:9 twist might have been a better choice... once my barrel is shot out, ill see what has panned out in the mean time

It seems like a reasonably expensive Snipe Tac to me too...
The more I delve into this, the more I am tempted by a 338 version... Seems that there is plenty more known about the 338's, and I could always throw a 375 barrel on once the 338 is shot out... Hopefully by that time there maybe some more clear choices with twist rates and projectiles.
But a 375 would be nice now...

Good info here guys....All of my parts are almost here for the 375 snipe tac...The barrel will be cut to a 1--10 for hunting...I have a second blank just waiting to be cut for expirementing around with (probably a 1--8) based on results of Dave Viers findings on the 414 solid. If it works and stabilizes, I will have GS hallow it out and I will do some impact tests, if it proves it's self and Im happy with the bullet, I will try it at 1,000 yards.
Most of our animal shots are between 800 yards and 1,200 yards. My edge is more than adequate here, but If I have a gun that dopes the wind better, I will use the best gun. Even if it is a 2,500 yard gun, Id rather be shooting it at 1,000 so long as it kills equal to or better than the 350gr SMK. Both the 350 gr smk and 300 gr smk will be the bench marks to beat here.
Dave Viers (black diamond) and Kirby Allan with the Allan Mag both are competent gun builders. Both of them have built many 338's and 375's. Both of them seem to lean towards the 375. When I get back from scouting tonight, I will post one of Kirbys threads doing a comparision on the 338 vs 375 if I can find it.

375's are not as much of a barrel burner as the 338 is. But when it comes down to all out performance inside of 2k yards the 338 just smokes everything else. It might have slightly more wind drift but the way i have seen the 338's perform its one of my favorite choices out there. Yes i love my 375 when shooting 2k plus but for a hunting rifle your just simply not going to beat what the 338 offers you. I like the very large bullet selection and the lower recoil. This things just dont kick compared to the 375 and 408's. We have more then a few 338 ST getting ready to go out and get tested to prove all of this, some are getting tested right now. We have found a way to almost triple barrel life in these. Which yes it would help the 375's alot as well but when you see what the 338's will do, its just tough not wanting to build one. I have a 375 as well but if im headed out to get a animal the 338 is the first rifle i will grab because it ssimply just more accurate.

The GS Custom bullets are available anytime, just check out the website and you can order online or e-mail. There is a back-log so it will take 2 months to get the bullets, but they're available.
The 355 grain bullet has been around a long time, and it shoots great! BC is much the same as Predators and Rocky Mountain and such, but it retains a higher B.C. at lower speeds then any of the other options. If you click on the "Technical Data" tab on the website you will see a list of the bullets, then click on the bold text bullet of your choice and it will pull up a full spreadsheet of information. The only bullet that could ever keep up was the Lost River bullet, and it still required 1 to 2 mills more compensation at 2000m. The advantage is that we got 200fps greater with the GS 355 then the LRBT because of the light engraving force, and many times greater barrel life.

I am a fan of the .338's myself, though this 414 grain project is swaying me the other direction. Thing is we have been making a 1+ B.C. bullet for the 338 for 7 years now. Also a 267 and 232 grain version that have been around for a long time. The one thing I wanted to mention is that our bullets have proven to increase barrel life many times over conventional bullets. So if you are worried about burning barrels, check it out. Our .22x64 wildcat shoots our 40 grain HV at 4,700-4,800fps all day long and has had over 4,400 rounds through it. It still shoots 1/2MOA (with careful handloading) just like the day it was built. No throat erosion is evedent, and it's a factory Musgrave barrel.

Will have the 414HV (HP) version out shortly after Dave gives us the thumbs up, and the 355HV is being worked on as we speek! Sorry for such a delay, but we simply cannot keep up with demand and are 2 months behind. We have 8 different custom bullet projects going on right now, so it's been tough to keep up. 414 is still 414 grains, and the HV version should be good for Cape Buff at 800 yards! Just kidding man, but it's a big dose of medicin for any animal to swallow. The part that's great is that these are real, functional, hunting hollow point bullets for those big rifles, not just a smashed or squashed lead bullet using shear size and mass to kill.

Sorry to steel the show guys. I've been trying to find a good length barrel and projectile for my .375 RUM. I notice im in a world of super magnums but would like to keep my .375 RUM and stay with it for a while.

Yes kelly, he is talking about the Viersco mag. But dont expect too many answers until they have finialized everything.
Yes there is loads for the 375RUM using those projectiles. But not many people are running them so you will not find much info on it, you will have to work up your own loads to find best accuracy in your rifle anyway. For a long range rig, get a nice quality 30in barrel with a 1:10 or 1:9 twist to maximize your velocity and be able to stablize the high BC 350gr class bullets. stick to the slow powders like retumbo etc. and you will be able to achieve 2800fps with a 350gr SMK from your 375RUM. Id start at 85grains and work up from there, you will probably end up somewhere between 90-100gr just guessing... Your in the same 375cal boat as the us with regard to barrel twists and bullets, you simply wont be pushing them as fast, so everything in this thread is relevant just the same for you. The problem has always been in the 375cal bullets, slowly there is progress being made here, and there a quite a few options now.

You can't go wrong with the 338 snipe tac. Loading will be quite easy and you will have one heck of a shooter. Be advised, that you will burn up your barrel in a hurry if you shoot alot. I would encorage you to do what Bobby Lawton encouraged me to do, and that is.... send your barrel in to H&M and have it nitrited. Bobby is currently doing some tests on the 338 snipet tac and will probably publish the results here. The initial feedback is that this concept really does extend your barrel life and believe me, you will want to do this on the 338.
Most of my parts are in on my 375 snipe tac, beliefve it or not, Im changing it to the 338 before I even get started....Partly because of Bobby Lawtons urging and partly because Dave Viers is building me one of his new 375 Viersco Mag's.
The 375 VM should be about 200 fps faster than the 375 snipe tac. With this in mind, why should I have two 375's??? So this is the reason Im switching to 338. The 338 will be a tad easier to shoot, and some report that it groups a tad better becasue of this. Again, the only limiting factor is barrel life. And I will have Bobby send my 338 barrel in and have it nitrited.
If you were going with the 375, you really should take a step back and look at the VM. It uses the same Lawton 8000 action with some minor modifications. This new caliber will likely be the fastest 375 on the planet.
