358 Winchester performance at 300 yds

A 35 Whelen ups the performance over a 358 some. Expect to have decisive kills to 300 with the 225 Sierra SP. Most any '06'can be rebored to the Whelen.
Another step up is the 358 Norma. Expect another 50-100 yards over the Whelen with most any bullet for decisive kills. A 338 Win can be rebored readily. The 35 Sambar is about equal.
Knowing the 358 and then really knowing it, expect you can milk a little bit more out of it. Having the slower bullet impact speeds meet resistance will improve energy transfer and results in the field.

I shot two deer this year with a 358 Winchester Hornady 200 gr. SP traveling at approximately 2300 fps. Both went 4 legs up immediately. I like the performance of this caliber/bullet at this velocity. I'd like to buy a barrel/gun that can mimic this velocity and performance at 250 to 400 yards. I'm thinking 35 Whelan or 358 Norma mag in a 26" barrel.

Any input would be appreciated.

Jim
Sticking With the Hornady 200 grain spire point You can achieve it with either a bolt or single shot 26" 35 Whelen handloaded or in a 20" or longer bolt gun 350 remington mag. handloaded with accurate 2520, The Norma magnum is great with the heavier over 200 grain projectiles but the 350 rem mag does the same velocity with 200 grain bullet 3000+fps with 19 grains less powder than the Norma magnum,
