This is my first "lighter" weight barrel for a "carry/walk/stalk" hunting rifle
It's a .35 Whelen, 24" stainless barrel, in a #4 Contour
I have (2) accurate "cold bore" loads for this gun.
In "cold bore" scenario, where I shoot a round, then put a fan on the barrel for 15 minutes, shoot, fan...
It will shoot a "cold bore" 3 round group of 1 1/2" to 2 1/2" at 500 yards...
But when I shoot the gun (4 times) in 10 second intervals at 500 yards, the first rounds are right next to each other, then the group opens up to 5-7" or so...
I'm assuming this is normal is a "lighter weight" barrel?
When heat builds up in a faster shooting sequence, the barrel isn't quite as accurate?
Thanks
