I know all of that. What I said was that Remington actually had a legitimate reason for the way they did it. I can't remember all the details since it's been so long since I read about it.
The reason was 2 things, SAAMI wanted a safety margin on base to shoulder length, and Remington wanted to utilise the extra space for heavy bullets of 300g in their 3.7" magazines. Can't remember where I read that, maybe Boddington in Rifle Shooter magazine. It also split the difference in length to the 375RUM…
