338 snipetac???

Hey I bought a rifle off here to save on my light packer. Seen several big Allen mags for sale on here. The rig rifle is a nice piece also

So is the improved shoulder needed. I was reading something about hydrolic dies earlier and if the shoulder IS needed then I was wondering if this would be a simpler (barrel and primer saving) solution?

isk:

Even simpler, Viersco sells fireformed brass - Services-Pricing

As best I know, Hornady is the only one that was offering hydraulic forming dies - see the accurateshooter article - Forming Improved Cases with Hornady's Hydraulic Forming Dies « Daily Bulletin I have no idea whether they still do or would do them for such a large cartridge case. The OP would need to contact Hornady.

IMHO, going direct to Dave Viers - or whichever cartridge designer the OP selects - is the most foolproof approach.

Personally I would love to have one of Kirby's 338 Allen mags...and one of the 7mm Allen mags but right now its not within my grasp and if I had the 338 yes I would use it but I would probably use my 300 ultra more often just because of the price of the brass, powder etc... etc...but considering that I already spend some doe on my 6.5x284 using the lapua brass. If you settle for less then you will always be left wondering what if I had went with the Lamborghini, and instead you got the mustang. For me my next rifle will be a full custom build but I need to save the doe up for this. Someday I will have the lambo and it will be so sweet.

Damnit i like the way you think

Theresgun) a 338 AM right now on classiffiedes page 1 or 2 with too much to list

From what I gather you want a LR rig but do not want to fire form but want something that will reach out there. I would suggest a 338 Edge or 375 Ultra mag. The 350gr SMK's out of the 375 Rum are a beast of a bullet. If you were going to go with a cheytac sized case I would go with the 375 you will get a lot more barrel life and a lot more frontal area on the bullet.

Why cant i just neck down a cheytac case? Why does it have to be improved? Why must the shoulder be bumped up and the case blown out. Isnt there just a simple 338-375 chey?

The chambering I was around was the same as the edge, but necking down instead of up and just using the 375 cheytac case.

Yes you can do that. Have the dies made the way you want it and the reamer and you are set. You do not have to improve the case if you do not wish to.
