338 SHERMAN MAX

Glad I was able to shoot a few more rounds through my 338 Max. The 285 ELDM and 68gr of H100V w/215 primer produced 2791' at max pressure. I worked up an accuracy load starting at 66gr and increased by .3gr through 67.2 and settled on 66gr since all five rounds punched a single ragged hole( most other yielded clover leads)
Then I shot the 265LRAB over H100V w215 primer and found 69gr yielded 2899' and room for a tad more!
Next I'll be looking for an accuracy load with the 265LRAB and will then start working on the 250 Berger.
Since I'm currently cruising the 250 Berger in my 338SS at 2860' I'm thinking 3000' plus is a real reality in the Max. Best part of today seeing these velocities and hardly any recoil!

A little gun porn. Rifle is a 700 that is blueprinted/timed. TriggerTech trigger, pillar and epoxy bedded. 28" Broughton barrel with a 9.3 twist. The brake is a custom one built by Gunsmith, Jeramiah Alexander. Jeramiah from Valley View Guns in Iberia, Mo is about as meticulous as you'd want! Great to work with for sure. The Camo work was done by Eric Pearson at P2 coatings out of Grove, Oklahoma. I highly endorse both of these for any work you may need.

Guys....parts are at the smith and should see it early December.
I sent a dummy with a 250 Berger and a 240 Dozer. Both seated with the boat tail body junction.1000 forward of the neck/shoulder junction. With the 240 Dozer this put the mouth of case covering the indent on the bullet, and both ogive were +- 3 thou of each other. With a 20" barrel, what powders would you all suggest? Guesses on velocity?
Cheers
the 240 dozer and 250 berger run the same speed in mine. they both pressure out at about 2910. Perfect fill with rl17 and h100v. I've had to go with slower powders in mine to get more fps. Like n560 works well with every bullet I have.
What barrel are you using , if you don't mind. Hopefully it doesn't pressure out as fast as mine.

Smoked a few more rounds down my tube. 265LRAB RL26 w/73 gr yielded 2818' with no pressure but no room for much more charge. The 285 ELDM RL26 w/72gr gave 2770' and no pressure. The 265 LRAB over h100V 71gr gave 2926' and room for a lil' more.
Sure enjoy shooting these awesome wildcats!

Do we like H100V? No experience with it personally, is it stable over temps? Does it produce consistent numbers for working up loads?

Its pretty good temp wise and had good luck with it in my ,338 Sherman long action too. Its about .6 temp wise and will usually give as good or better velocity as RL17 only its a little slower. (about 3 grains)
