thinking about putting an elk rifle together in 338 rum. I'm thinking carbon wrapped barrel and a lighter weight stock. What brake do you guys recommend and what's recoil going to be like with a lightweight braked 338 rum
If you shoot the 250 gr not bad but it's still a good recoil. If you shoot the 300 gr it's not going to be much fun to shoot but with a good break it will be tolerable. Mine is 8.5-9 lbs bare rifle and I wouldn't want any lighter.
I'm building a 338 rum now, rem 700 ultra action, 28" proof sendero, ag composites thumbhole stock, going to use a piercision 5 port muscle brake in 3/4" threads due to the large diameter of barrel and bore.
I have a 338 Edge with a 30" proof barrel and ATACR scope that weighs 10.5 all in. With the T3 Terminator brake I find it easy to shoot and can usually spot shots at 400 yards and over. 300 gr Berger @ 2800fps
