338 Rum to the Max !

Thank you fellas for the video.
I considered the Edge when I had my factory 700 LSS 338 RUM rebarreled but decided to stay with the RUM since I was already tooled up for it. I'm getting 2820 with the 300 ABLR again with Retumbo.

Looks like you and Rum Man live fairly close? Maybe you could try it out and then share your results with the rest of the class?

I like the idea of it but not sure if it's worth giving up barrel life, like Lefty mentioned.

That's a good idea.
RUM man,
Where abouts are you located? I'm north of GR.
I've got a 250 yard gong out back, 400 yard range at the club 2 miles away and my buddy has 800 yard gong at his farm.
Shoot me a PM

Well I'm thinking before i touch that barrel I'm going to test what powders i have ..maybe one of them will Shine with the 300 gr bergers .
This is a Defiance prefit so I can remove it needed .
Rl-26
Rl-33
Nv568
Nv570
RamShot LRT
8133
Retumbo

THE RL-26 produced 3000 ft.per.sec in my 24" barrel Rum with 250gr bergers.
H-1000 has been tryed already In all my 338's .

Any thoughts ??

I ran mine with retumbo and 250bergers at 3100fps. That's some serious whoopass. Worked great well past1500yds.
No need for the 300gr bullets unless shooting extreme distances. Unless you like more recoil.
I probably could try the 250 gr in this barrel to . I'm thinking the extra 2" would get maybe 60 to 70 ft.per.sec gain.

What are the best powders for the 250 grain weight? Hoping I have something that will work.

I'm set with Retumbo, about 20 lbs so that's what I use. If I were to try another power, I'd look at RL26.
Im don't have that much and it's dedicated to my wife's 30 Nosler.

The +p treatment eats out enough throat that I wouldn't do it period. If you want your throat half shot out, go shoot it out. rl33 is also a bit slow burning and bulky for a 338rum. I'm at a full case with my 300rums and 225's using rl33. I'd think a slow burning rather dense powder like lrt might be the ticket here. The new sta-ball hd? powder that's supposed to be ball/ retumbo might also be useful to you.
My view of +P throating is two-fold:

1. Reduced chamber pressure. The maxed pressure load prior to the +P throating process will have less pressure; that is an advantage for me.

2. Opportunity for increased velocity. Because +P throating relieves some of the chamber pressure, the end-user can increase the velocity if powder capacity allows it.

Let's keep this going for the 338 Rum guys .
If you have on and a great load post it . I dont mind one bit !
I'm typically a heavy bullet for caliber guy in my Rifles . But post what you have tryed !

I would need to check my book but I believe 93.2 gr of Rl-26 is what I ended up with @ 2997 ft.per.sec in a 24" barrel with the 250 gr EH bergers.

That's great. Thanks. I have close to 8 lbs of R26. My barrel will be 23" with a 9 twist.
