338 Norma Reloading Data

We've run MagPro, 7977 and 8133 with 300 grain SMK's. Ran 8933 up to 90.6 grains without pressure signs. It seems to be a much slower powder than it shows on the charts. We were in the low 2,700's at 90.6. MagPro at 90.5 grains got us to the high 2,600's. I'll be trying some different loads with that. 87 grains of 7977 got us in the low 2,700's. These were with a slow 26" barrel and your mileage may vary with pressure. We're finishing a couple builds right now that should be better platforms. @SheepShapeAK you'll probably see the FDE build on the Talkeetna range if you go out there after the middle of August.

I'll be out guiding until the 27th unless we tag out early. Which I'm hoping happens, so I can get back and get everything dialed in before my Sheenjek float.

869 was a bust. Only shot the first five loads then called it. Way too slow for the NM. Had an unburnt powder kernel in the barrel after the last shot.

H1000 will be my powder. 86.9 grains behind the 275gn BD II.

This was my five shot string seated at 2.935" to the ogive.

Went out this morning to zero the scope and run more of my 86.9 grains of H1000 across the Labradar. Pretty happy with this load and the groupings. Now if I could just shoot off my pack that would be great. Need to just put the bipod on the rifle and try that.

All rounds at the 300 yard line again.

You're going to have to make a decision pretty soon. Either commit to practicing with the pack or just mount the bipod. We got our chassis back from Rivers Bend yesterday, waiting on the actions and parts to get back from QPQ then off to the smith to cut the threads and chambers. Hoping to be shooting by the second week of August.

In reality my shot will probably be 50-75 yards and I could have just brought the 458 SOCOM on the float trip. 😂
