Started reloading a new Savage 338 Lapua with a 26" barrel. Speeds checked using Magnetospeed V3.

I get 2800 fps with 90.3 grains of H1000. Seated to mag length (3.750"). Does not seem over pressure, but most load books list 2800 fps as max speed for max load.

However, Berger lists their loaded ammo pushing almost 3000fps with the same bullet. I can hear that I have room in the case for more powder. I went up to 92 grains and hit 2860fps, but started to see a scratch on the base of the brass around the primer hole.

I'm noticing speeds get very close to each other between 90-90.5 grains. I'm thinking that where I will find the best accuracy.

What should i expect for speed?

Thanks

H 1000 will work but it's a little on the fast side, slower powders will give you better velocities

33, lrt and 570 for higher speeds. Magnum might be a better choice for 250 weight? As the 3 I stated in the 1st sentence might be better for 270 and up. For 250's I'm going to give 7828ssc, 7977 and magpro a try.

I pressured out early with mag Pro speeds were very low barely tapped an 8 pound keg ,do you need one?

338 Edge h'1000 300 gr bergers @ 2884 ft.per.sec 30 " barrel

338 Rum h-1000 , 300 gr bergers @ 2883 ft.per.sec 30" barrel

338 Rum , 24" carbon , 250 gr bergers , re-26 @ 2997 ft.per.sec best accuracy. Hit 3087 ft.per.sec but es and sd way off .

Havent tryed any Re-33 powder yet in any 338's . I finally got some , so testing to follow!
