338 Lapua questions

I use the H1000 and 250 smoking. Tried the 300 and 285 just could not get a load the ever settled in on these two.

3/4" at 100, good but not superb, I shoot suppressed, and that really tames it down.

I also have found H1000 with 250s and 285s was better for me than retumbo. For some reason I can keep SDs lower with H1000. Both powders will work.

Berger 300 OTM, Retumbo, 215GM is dead on money for my AR30A1. I've tried multiple times using H1000, but Retumbo has better velocity and accuracy. H1000 works best for me in the 300WM but not 338lm.

Ladder @ 300 yards with Retumbo starting at 91 going to 94 in .5 grain increments with the Berger 300 OTMs.

Ladder @ 300 yards with H1000 starting at 89 going to 92 grains in .5 grain increments with the Berger 300 OTMs.

Both powders work great.

I use 285 Hornady Match, with 89.6grns of H1000, and M215 Federal.
US and Retumbo didn't work well in my ride. The 300smk and 300Berger work awesome too, but 285 did sub 1/2"moa.

One gun likes the Berger 300gr EH 0.015 otl with 97.5gr of RL 33 in Lapua brass, Fed 215M.
The other one likes the 270gr ELDx 0.015 otl with 89.5gr of RL 26 in Lapua brass, Fed 215M.
My first liked the 250 Berger EH w/ 105gr of RL 33.

I think the biggest improvement for me was switching primers. It's going to be an expensive process to find what works for you.

I've shot 230s, 250s, 285s and 300s. Solids, cup and ball. Polymer tips, soft tips and hollow points. Federal, Remington and Winchester primers. Retumbo, H1000, 7828, US869, RL33 and the old 50 powder that Hodgdon made.

It took a few years for me to find something I really like.

I use ram shot magnum with a 285 Barnes l r x. Shoots sub m o a to a thousand.

I'm running 93.2 gr Retumbo with the 300 Berger OTM. AR30A1 is only 26" so velocity is 2765@60 deg F. The 285 Amax was 2770 using H1000 @ 92.5gr with a very consistent .25 moa. When I switched to the Berger 300 OTM, I couldnt duplicate the results using H1000 so I used Retumbo and have better 1200-1760yd results. Best is 9.5" group at 1760 yds. At 1148 yds I placed 12/12 inside 8 inches. For some reason the jump from 285 Amax to 300 OTM my rifle didnt like the H1000. At 94.5 gr of Retumbo, the 300 OTM had a 1 hole 3 shot group with the 3 shots clocking 2773, 2771 and 2772. Es @ 1.90 SD @ 1.0. Only problem was signs of over pressure so I worked down to next node @ 93.2gr. All of my loads are .001 OTL.
