That's what I had gathered, to stay 250 and up. I've loaded 250's in grand slams and gamekings (my brake finally showed up today so I can load test soon I hope), 285eldm, and 300gr SMK. The 285-300 range moved too much with just the radial brake the rifle came with, but I do want to be able to play with the 300's for long range rock hunting. In my area, I don't see any need for the 300's to hunt with. There's not that much long range, unless you find a lucky canyon shot. A lot of the logging has slowed down considerably so there's far fewer clear cuts along ridges that you can sit and shoot through.Just my opinion, and for free so....
The lighter bullets available in. 338 while tempting for the gain in velocity, seem to be much softer for use in lower case capacities. The 225 in the Win Mag has become a favorite of mine, out of a RUM I'd probably stay 250gr or above to take advantage of the higher BC.
