308win bullet and weight for wife’s gun?

morning, I have a custom 308 on mauser action. timmey trigger
BMG barrel cut to 26". H&S stock, weaver steel mount,
warne steel rings and Nikon 6.5x20x44 monach. cercote
finish, sniper grey. I shoot the 130gr. barnes TTSXBT bullet, and
50grs of H414. very accurate load. I use this set up and bullet
on hogs, coyotes, deer. never had a runner. stone killer. I
got this load from a sierra loading manual.
the 135gr. sierra match bt bullet use the same
load. very accurate. justme gbot tum

I've been using the .308 on and off for about 20yrs. It's been a reliable performer with bullets from 150-180gr. Mainly using varget and cfe223. Some guys like RL15 but I haven't tried it.

130gr ttsx's on top of TAC takes it to a new level. Great accuracy with H4895 in a couple of rifles we've loaded for, top velocities with TAC though.

The light hammer bullets from 152 and down are going to reduce some recoil over 165 n up class of bullets
I have been shooting the 168 berger hunters in my competition load over varget for exceptional consistency out to 820. Hitting the 4" spinner at 650yds has been simple since I figured out that load.

I really like H380 in my Dad's M88 Winchester. 125 or 130 SPBT. Never chronoed . Pop put alotta meat on the table whilst I was growing up with that combo. Deer meat that is. Prolly not for elk.

Ok my wife has a 308win I wondering what bullet to use in it and powder? It will get used for hinting deer, moose, elk maybe longest range would be 300 yards.

Barnes 150 TTSX.....simply the best for the application in question! Several powders will work well, take a look at Varget! memtb

Curious as to why you chose the 143 hammer over the heavier 7mm from hammer? If my 280 AI barrel ever shows up I'm going to take a hard look at hammer.

I shoot the 143 and 177 Hammer Hunter in my 7 STW. The 143 is doing 3500+ fps and the 177 is going 3000+ fps. According to Steve, you don't get any real advantage from the 177 over the 143 until 800 yards(or it may be 1000 yards, I can't remember exactly). I just wanted the heavier bullet for elk, otherwise the 143 is used for pronghorn and deer. They are devastating bullets on game. I just took a mountain goat on Kodiak Island 3 weeks ago with the 213 Hammer in my 338 Lapua. Made short work of a very tough animal.

Now, back to the OP, look at the 166 gr Hammer Hunter. It's awesome in my 30-06. Or, the 178 gr ELDX is fantastic in the 308. Got a buddy that swears by it on top of Varget in his 308. Took a buck of a lifetime last year over 300 yards with the ELDX. Dropped the buck in its tracks

Have a lot of friends that shoot long range with a 308 and they use 4064 or varget powder. Bullet weight is 168 to 175. They shoot a lot out to 800 yards with sub 1/2 moa.

130gr Barnes TTSX with IMR 8208 ( Deer load great for 308 Win)
Or
150 TTSX with CFE 223 ( Deer/Elk in 308 Win)

I run 44.5 grains of IMR4895 because its easy to find. Gives me 2830FPS out of a 26 inch barrel. I run the 168amax at 2.8 inches. I shot some 168 ballistic silver tips same load and seating depth and they all shot less than .75 inch. I'm looking at trying the some accubonds/ELDX/ or what ever around the same weight. I shoot the rifle for fun and practice. The load gets me out to 1000 yards with repeatable results. The load seem to be very consistent and no pressure seen on brass as well.
