Anyone know if a 300wsm Winchester model 70 with sporter barrel can be threaded?

should be around the .640 mark, but could be less. most won't thread 1/2's on anything larger than .243. 5/8 (.625) would be not ideal @ .600, but might do 9/16 which can be common for 26-28cals (depending on makers). What is the Mzl diameter of your barrel? The general guideline most smiths use is min of .550 but better at .600
You are doing 1/2x28? Bolt guns usually spec 5/8x24 - unless you have a can that you wanna swap back and forth...coolshould be around the .640 mark, but could be less. most won't thread 1/2's on anything larger than .243. 5/8 (.625) would be not ideal @ .600, but might do 9/16 which can be common for 26-28cals (depending on makers).
i would need to measure the 1 i have to be sure, but .625-.640 is where i remember, but it's been 10 years since then. cutting 1/2' threads only leaves .077" of meat on the barrel. You are doing 1/2x28? Bolt guns usually spec 5/8x24 - unless you have a can that you wanna swap back and forth...cool
.640 should be plenty.
