So I've been looking for the hallowed 215gr berger for my rum. I text a friend and asked him if he had some or knew where some was. He responded with

"Ok your over thinking it the 300 rum is built around the 190 and 198 find one that shoot good groups and mess with the grains to speed it up or slow it down that has the best group."

Whats your thoughts on this?

Been shooting Nosler 180 grn Accubonds for 21 years out of a factory Rem 700. Shot a cow elk at 867 yds with it back in December. Shoot 199 grn Hammer Hunters out of my long range custom RUM. They're extremely accurate. Had some 245 grn Bergers that I sold because I also shoot an Edge and don't need a heavy bullet for the RUM. Was also shooting 230 grn Bergers. Quit shooting for the same reason as the 245's. I currently have some Berger 205 Elite Hunters on backorder. If they ever show up, I'm hoping they'll group as well as the Hammer Hunters...

The RUM is pretty versatile and you can be successful with 180 to 245 pills. I prefer heavy for caliber, high BC bullets for my LR hunting rifles. I use the 225 ELDM's in my RUM. Factory Remington 700 Long Range, pushing them 2970 fps.

My favorites are 200 20x's , 215's and 230's
but 168's and 180's are great as well.
The RUM is so versatile go with what it shoots, twist rate and size of game ur hunting. I don't believe u will be disappointed.

230 berger OTM with Retumbo
220 ELDX with H1000
200 Partitions with H1000
They all work great in the RUM!

Experimented with a lot of different bullets in my 300 RUM's, but depending on game, potential distances and the rifle, mostly had best groups and success with the 180NAB, 200NAB, 210 Berger and some 212 ELDX. Used a few of the 190 and 210 ABLR, but my groups were slightly larger, and the same for the Barnes 180TTSX. typically, the 180-200NAB's are used in my walking/stalking rifle and the 190-212's in the custom LR heavy.

Found the 210 Berger was most accurate in my neighbor's model 700 RUM. Tried the 215's in it, but nor nearly as accurate. H1000 was the powder used after trying several others. Granted no two rifles will shoot the same loads.

230 Bergers, 200 Accubonds, 180 Accubonds, all have shot well. Really wanting to find a box of 245 to shoot out of a 9 twist rum. Anyone have an extra box they wouldn't mind parting with, ha. Love to try 215's but I'm sure that will be a year or more down the road before I can give those a run, along with the 245's. H1000, Ramshot Magnum, and waiting to try N570 with the 230's and hopefully 245's if I can ever find a box.
