300 WSM and 181 Hammers

Rhovee, I know that question was to muddy but what speed are you seeing with 69.6 grns? I run the 200.20x at 69.0 grns of RL26 at 2930fps. I got them up to 3030fps, but had a node at 2930 and didn't think I could hit a higher node without pressuring out.

2970 with 26" Bartlien carbon. A little testing I have been doing. New rifle. It's the group in the top. Lower is RL23.

180-200 grain. Shooting 180 AB, 190 ABLR and 200 AB. My load data is in basement but will go down later and pull some examples but I am generally in the 63 grain range to get over 3000 with a 180AB. There are a lot of other LRH threads showing same as well. Bad back so getting down into basement is a chore right now. Here is Alliant load data and the 180 AB is quite a bit faster even in 24" barrel. I have 26" barrel so getting even more. I tried RL26 and could not get same velocity that I am with RL16. Like RL26 but also like RL16 a lot more in 300WSM. It may not seem like a huge difference but 5+ grain difference in powder relative to recoil reduction is also a benefit.

I will try to get some data up later.

Ok, so pretty much the same as mine with a 26" Proof carbon. I love the way the 200.20x shoots, haven't seen too much reviews on game yet though?

The 200.20x and 215 Berger are the same bullet with the 200.20x having some of the bearing surface taken out.

Muddy, that's intriguing. How's the case fill using 16? With 26 at 69 grns I'm at the case shoulder junction. Start compressing loads around 71 grns with the 181 hammers seated at the Neck boat tail junction.

Case fill is considerably less which I like for most part. The CBTO was pretty similar except for the 190 Impact which seemed to like 0.025 best.
The throat on this barrel is SIGNIFICANTLY different than standard to fit my rifle specs which WILL NOT be similar to yours at all.
Standard Safety Statement: These loads were deemed to be safe in MY RIFLE not necessaruly safe in yours. Standard safe loading practices MANDATES you work up loads in your own rifle.

Preferred Barrel - 26" 5R, 300WSM - shortened throat to accommodate 2.95 Max COAL AICS magazine. I did notice that velocities seem to be higher in this barrel than previous barrels of same load.
180AB-RL16-63.5 gr = 3050 - pressure was a little bit higher but this was best node.
190ABLR-RL16- 63.5 gr = 3050 - this I thought was interesting result
190 Impact-RL-16-63.0=2980
200AB-Rl16-63.0=2925 - didn't push further since it shot so well at 63.0 and diminishing returns probably with pressure
By far the 190 ABLR shot the best for me with a CBTO of 0.010 and was well inside 1/2 MOA at 100 yds. Heck, I shot the best 10 shot group I have ever shot with it couple weeks back that was insanely small for what I normally see <1/2MOA. Then again, 3 days without coffee is a huge difference for me on the bench. Its been close to 90 last week and for next 7-10 days so probably not going to see range for a while.

The nicest aspect of RL16 is less powder is less recoil even with heavier bullets which is always nice for target re-acquisition. Personally, I think the 300WSM really seems to like the 190 stuff since that bullet just seems to shoot better for me.

What's the COAL of the case? I have 3.2" to work with and wanted to see if 181's or 199 would work?

Rhovee, 3.102". Can't remember what the FB is in my gun but that gives me a .007" jump. I'm using the Defiance XM bottom metal so I have 3.2" to use as well. This is actually a bit shorter COAL than the 200.20x I shoot even though they are a touch longer bullet. Attached is a pic of the 200.20x compared to the 181 hammer.

Plowboy, it's a proof Sendero 26" 10 twist. No issues stabilizing them at all.
