Just read an article (Classic or Modern) in GUNS April 2012....
"The .300WSM is indisputably the most poplar big game round introduced since 2000 - and has just about exactly the same powder capacity as the .300 H&H. In fact, you can handload either cartridge with the same bullets and powder charge and obtain about exactly the same pressures and velocities."
I have always seen and heard it compared to the WinMag but not the H&H. So, after reading this I broke out my Nosler #5 & 6 and compared both with 200 & 220gn bullets with the same powders. Not only are the charges very, very close but the velocities are all within 100fps of each other, usually less, with the exception of one.
Some say it's more accurate than the other .30 cal magnums. The .300H&H won the 1000-yard Wimbledon Cup Match at Camp Perry in 1935 and the international 1,000 yard competition in 1937. As a testament to its accuracy, since the .300WinMags introduction, has gone on to win several 1,000-yard competitions.
"well, it's just another example of how things aren't nearly as new and different as we like to think they are!"...Jon Sundra.
As for me and my house, we will shoot the .300WinMag. johnnyk
