300 WM powder choice

[ QUOTE ]
IMR 4350 or RL 19 for bullets 165 and lighter

H4831 or RL 22 for 180 and heavier

I favor the RL 22 @ 76.0 with 180 Nosler Part. in my 300 Win

[/ QUOTE ]

Same comment, except that I went 78.0gr of RL22 for the Barnes 180gr TSX with great results, both in accuracy and on-game performance.

MV is about 3150 fps out of a 24" barrel.

Reloader 22

IMR 4350 is good along with H4831 but Reloader 22 is excellent with the Nosler 180 AB in the 300 Win Mag

76.0 of RL 22 with 180 AB

The 300 win mag is not picky when it comes to powders. As others have stated IMR4350 and reloader 19 work good for the light bullets. For the 180 and up reloader22,IMR4831, H1000 work great A powder no one has mentioned is IMR7828. I have used this powder with success and it has proven to be consistent. You mentioned your rifle has a 24" barrel. Consider burning the 4350 or re19 behind the 180+ bullets. I have burned out a few 24" barrels with 70 grains of IMR4350 and a 178 a max. If I had to choose one powder it would most likely be IMR4831, it is a good fit for the 300 wm.

Personally I would pass on the offer of the cheap powder if it is as you say 10 - 15 years old. Even with "good" storage it must have deteriorated by now to some degree.

Just my 2cents worth.

H-1000

Plus 3 on H-1000. I tried 6 different powders and that's what my Savage 300 WM 112BVSS like the best with 200 gr AB's. out to 1000 yds.

Good luck

H-4831. The last .300 Win Mag that I had started out @ 1/2 moa with a pulled 200 gr full patch, 73 gr H-4831, Rem 9 1/2 M primer. (approach with caution, that was a hot load), but it would belly shoot 10's & X's at 600yds whenever I could. I never found any powder it liked better.

Approach the old powder you were talking about with caution. H-4831 is very linear, but will start to get unpredictable with age (and poor storage).

Lots of good posts on this thread, Tom

For 200 gr Accubonds I love H-1000, for everything else in my rifle it is IMR 4831.
