Hello all,

New reloader, about to purchase my first "batch" of supplies to develop my first load. I am planning to shoot the 200gr Nosler AB. I am looking for the following:

- Brass Recommendations
- Powder Recommendations

Should I focus on loading this 1 bullet or should I pick a 2nd candidate as well to load?

How many different powders should I initially purchase to develop a load? 2-3?

Thank you all in advance. I am hoping to get atleast 0.5-0.75 MOA at 100 out of this rifle. It's a new Savage 110 Hunter.

Thank you all in advance.

I use the 200 gr AB for hunting with the 300 Win Mag. I'm using Nosler brass, CCI Lg Rifle Magnum primers and H1000.

What is your load development procedure? Do you pick a constant seating depth, load powder up in 0.5gr increments to find accuracy, then mess with seating depth?

I'm not using the bullet you are, so I'll withhold my load data... However, I do like the CCI 250's with RL26 or H1000.
There are a couple different opinions to load development. Some start with charge weight, others start with seating depth. Both have their merits and are well argued for.
I have gained preference to start with seating depth and work charge weight afterwards, mainly because I'm not shooting customs and am limited by the depth of my mag. I was turned towards this method by learning about the sine wave that develops when adjusting seating depth.

When I came up with the load I'm using I figured out the cartridge length so the bullet was 0.020" off the lands and then loaded up a few cartridges at different powder charge weights. I probably stepped the powder charge by 0.5 gr since the load was using 70+ grains of powder.

When I shot 200 ELD-X bullets in my 300 Win Mag I used IMR 7828ssc. Other great powders would be H1000, IMR 7977, and RL26. ADG or Gunwerks brass would be my first choice for brass. I also like Federal 215 primers a lot in magnums. Keep us posted!

I would look for ADG brass cci mag primers as for as powder H-4831sc H-1000 RL23 or RL 26 IMR 8133 the way powder is right now rl 23 or imr 8133 might be the easiest to find if you don't already have the others

200 grain AccUBond @ 3100 MV is golden. Nosler guide #8 book lists fair speeds with IMR 4350, RL 22, IMR 4831 with H4831 most accurate. But a bunch of talented LRH members here who reload for the 300 Win should have several updated powder suggestion for you to get your 200 AB blazing fast. Good for you, great project!

So, do you start at the lowest recommended charge weight or pick a middle charge and keep that constant through seating tests?

Do you just load as long as the magazine will let you and keep bumping it back to find a seating depth?

I follow the suggestion that another member on this forum had made and start 0.020" less than mag depth, then work back in 0.010" increments.
I typically will choose the middle charge weight and keep that consistent through the development. Less variables means less confusion, in my opinion.
I know there was a thread that I had asked about this process a while back and received really good feedback. I'll see if I can find it and post it here for you to read through.

@Mikecr explains the process very well in here.
As you will see when you read through, the topic is debated with passion. I've found the process to be effective since implementing it.
Hope this helps.

Edit: here is another one that I archived that explains both in more depth. Both processes are explained pretty well here.

I am currently testing 200 eldx with 7828ssc as well in my Savage 10t 300mag and have had great results. Averaging .44" at 100yrd. May I ask what your powder load and odj are? I'm running 72.5gr with 2.81" but want to test 2.84 and 2.84"

I no longer have a .300 Win Mag. I rebarreled it a few years ago. I was shooting around 74gr in Hornady brass and was seated around 3.600-3.650" OAL which was like 0.020 off the lands in my rifle. I don't know what the base to ogive measured on those loads.

I shoot a Savage 116 Bear Hunter and hand load the 200 gr Nosler AccuBond as well. My load consists of 78 gr of H1000, Remington brass, and Winchester large rifle primer (non magnum). I have it seated at 30,000 ths off the lands. In my rifle this load at 100 yards will print a nice cloverleaf consistently.
