300 win mag loads

If you like mono bullets and plan to reload you should read through the Absolute Hammer thread on this page. I'm using H4350 and 178 grain Absolute Hammer bullet, getting over 3,200 FPS out of a 24" barreled 300 win mag with a can, and no signs of pressure. Groups are 0.5 moa or better. Performance on game is outstanding.

Wow! The savage is 24" fluted and I have a banish 30 can. Also have 10# of H4350 to use, wish I could find someone here to trade a pound of H1000, haha. I'm not against lead bullets but like the weight retention Barnes has. I'll definitely check out that thread, thank you!

There's also a thread on Hammer Bullets terminal performance on the Rifles, Barrels, Ballistics page that's worth checking out. And a thread on close range performance.

Since elk were mentioned, and given your parameters (like mono, and range out to 500), I'm with JTH on this one. I load 166 Hammer bullets in my buddy's .300 WSM and it has had excellent results on deer and elk. So far Hammer bullets have been the easiest to find a load for in that rifle and the other 5 rifles (in different chamberings) I load them in. That may be an added benefit to someone new to reloading, may work for you. They are spendy compared to most, but well worth it. If they don't work I've seen Steve say he'd buy them back, what other company will do that?
What state you located in?

They'll buy them back? Wow. I like supporting companies like that. Same reason I switched to Magnus broadheads (and they simply get the job done). I'll check them out. I'm not too concerned on grain rather than what my gun likes more. Just thought 175gr+ is a "cover all" for deer/elk.

I'm in Minnesota (yes, its embarrassing), but planning hunts for Wyoming & Montana in the coming years.

That's one of the good things about a 300 wm. You can load it down to lighter weight bullets for deer and antelope, of the big pills for that trophy bull elk. All it takes is time behind the gun to find what works for you.

Woodleigh 180 gr. pp for lead bullets and the 180 gr. Maximus from Cutting Edge Bullets for lead free. Both work very well on class 2 and 3 game. For long range l load the CE 180 Laser. All of these shoot ragged hole 5 shot groups at 200 yards. My go to powders for them are Reloder 16 and 26 in the 300 Win..

Been shooting the 300 WM for a number of years. Just bought a Buragra HMR-PRO in 300 WM. 79 gr (H-1000). LRM primer, and 180 gr Hornaday SST. This is a 50 meter small bore reduced for shooting at 50'. Shot at 100 YDS. This load has been working for me for Years!
Good luck! And (if) you find the recoil a bit heavy, Put a Good Break on the End!

I've been run the 175 lrx with rl22 in my 300 win mag I'm getting 3150 FPS and 3/4" groups. I also developed a load with a 200 gr eldx and h1000 was getting 1/2" groups at 200 yds and 2950 FPS. California decided I had to with the lrx

the 300 W/M with 175 grain VLD Berger hunter with either H-4350 or H-4831 worked well for me until I found that the H-4831 with a 185 + VLD Berger slugs worked best with a 1:8" twist. then I went for the 175/180 bergers and stuck with those for Elk. deer out to 600 yards fell to a 170/175 grain Berger topped out with H-1000 or H-4831.
